MAVS NEWS:

He has an opt-in year. Perhaps he doesn't have much leverage, but neither do the Mavs. What will they do if he sticks with his demands whatever they would be? There is no back-up option if he walks. Mavs are screwed.

So an ACL tear is not the death sentence to a career as it was maybe even as little as 5 years ago. New rehab strategies and surgical procedures have really helped athletes bounce back.

But one thing you cannot get around is the time to recover. Kyrie is going to be out at a minimum till December. Most likely a February return if he rehabs well and takes the time to get into game shape.

Now, it depends on the severity of the tear and the location of it. There is a chance that Kyrie won’t be back until summer of next year if he has multiple complications like an avulsion fracture or other similar complications. We saw that with Lonzo Ball for example.

I feel for Kyrie. I never would’ve thought he’d be such an incredible leader when he was traded here. I hope he has an easy recovery.

I'd trade his ass the next day. FOR PICK(S). This team isn't going to win in that 2-3 year window.

Nico is loyal to his guys. Kyrie is going to get his extension. KD will be traded here. We will run AD+KD till Kyrie returns.

And then when it blows up in fantastical fashion we can maybe rebuild through some trades.

But Nico has jumped to warp speed. Can’t stop halfway now.

Has there every been a situation that blew up in management's face this quickly? Maybe the Brown's giving Watson that horrific contract, but I can't think of a NBA comparable scenario.

Exactly. Kyrie getting injured in this circumstances was not a matter of if, it was a matter of when. I was warning about this for weeks. On top of it, the injury is really bad. I feel sorry for him.

While some of it might be a self inflected wound, he'll probably get a pass because of how injury plagued the team is/was.  And your lack of faith is justified as they did greenlight the trade.  I don't gamble, but if I did my money would be on Nico being here next season, sadly.

Is KD going to want to come here now with Kyrie out most of next season?  KD will be 37.  He does not have time to wait.

Not even the stock market on Black Tuesday had a faster fall from grace than the Mavericks in the last month.

Yeah, nobody is going to want to be here next season, not even the guys who are already here.

Sorry to be so negative today, but this seems like an extinction level event, assuming the team wasn't unknowingly dead already after the Luka trade.

It’s a hard choice we must face. Give up NBA fandom. Or cheer for the Lakers.

Oh I think absolutely. They decided to team up together when KD was going to be out a minimum a year dealing with his achilles rehab.

I can see a similar scenario here. Except instead of Kyrie carrying the Nets without KD for a year, KD will work with AD to keep the Mavs afloat.

KD might not think Dallas is optimal but anything is better than his current situation.

The Lakers have God King so they are easy to root for.

I'm personally leaning towards a short-term lease on the Thunder bandwagon.

Stolen franchise and the karma you'd earn could have serious ramifications.

Hard to root for such a free throw merchant in Shai.

I am unfortunately sticking with the Mavs. But Lakers are disgustingly my team that I’m rooting for in the short term.

What has happened to this franchise in the last 30+ days is mind boggling. Its sickening. This was a finals teams that made the necessary tweaks to compete for a championship again. We were right there. Just waiting on Luka to come back from injury.

What the hell really happened? Did someone invade Nico's body? Does he owe the mafia money? None of this makes sense to have happened the way it did. This franchise tanked so fast without warning. I don't think any of could even cook up a more sinister plot involving a sports teams downfall.

We built an entire team around Luka. His strengths, weakness, skills, etc., etc. Only to blow it up and reverse course on a whim. Now we lose Kyrie for pretty much an entire year. No control of our picks. This is sickening. There is no positive spin to this season or next. Or our future. I think we are screwed for a decade at least because of the bs Nico pulled.

You might be right, but I think you're significantly underestimating how this will change the perception of this team, even among its decision makers.

About 50% of Harrison's own "window" just got nuked. I am not so sure he's going to be "loyal" to Kyrie, as you suggest. If he is, he really is an idiot. This is not a big player, this is a QUICK player. I would for sure not want to be in the Kyrie business after this.

I just don’t know how you can give Nico any sort of benefit of the doubt when the dude traded away Luka citing “win now.”

He is an idiot, through and through. Thats been proven. I’m not going to try and keep beating the dead horse but any answer for “the Mavs won’t do X, only an idiot would do that” is, yes they will do that dumb thing.

That’s why the Kyrie extension is coming. KD is well on his way

Buckle up!
