Trade deadline is over, my dude.

The mavs will figure something out they always do. Mavs just need more defense at the 3 and 2. That's why klay and kyrie will be gone after this year.

No they won't. Klay is part of the solution not part of the problem. His shooting and defense will play into things in the playoffs. They are just starting to run the type of offense where Klay can be utilized. He will look night and day better all of a sudden.
Find me at Lakersball.com. I'm done with the Nico and the Mavs.

You could get a lot of young defensive talent for both and still win with two good point guards.

if including klay in a hypothetical KD deal means pj can stay in Dallas, there ain't no problem trading Klay. klay is a good player but i'd definitely pick pj over him anyday of the week. if the return is good enough anyone can be traded tbh. even if the return isn't so good you may still find a way to get one of the Dallas stars as long as you're good with Nico tbh.

I agree there's a lot you can build around lively and davis.

Maybe they could bring JJB out of retirement to play PG.

Bogdan bogdanivic should be thepoint guard for Jason kidd

Klay is now shooting 39% from the three pt line, knows where to be on defense, and is a veteran leader with championship rings. Every opponent in the league pays to where he is when he's on the court.

BTW, welcome back, Balkis. Apologies for doubting JJB back in the day. You were very much right about him.

I think Kidd has done a pretty good job of managing Klay this year. I do expect the Mavs see him in their "timeline" for the future.
I am having trouble seeing fit though. Even if PJ, AD and Lively pairing works, Klay seems like an odd 5th starter. Ideally you would want that fifth starter to compete with PJ and Lively as your 3rd best player. I don't think that is Klay at this stage. Can I see him coming off the bench? Not really? I think he is still a good player. Up and down though, but I am having trouble fitting the pieces together even if our big front court works out.

He's not the stopper he once was. He can make a play sometimes on D, but the consistency is not there anymore. I get keeping him around for periodic flashbacks like the one he had vs his old team. But when his shots not falling, he gives you little else at this point in his career. This is IMO of course. Others may feel differently.
I think he's perfectly serviceable on defense, and opponents respect him when he shoots. He stretches the floor, and he's at 39% on 3's. As audiosway said, the current ball movement seems to suit him.
I think Kyrie also needs Klay for an assist in leadership now. Klay's minutes are down slightly, but they need Klay in the playoffs, and I assume Kidd is making sure he's healthy. Maybe you re-think that in the summer, depending on this very strange second half of the season, but trading Klay shouldn't be a plan now even if you could trade him.

Klay can be (a) a disappointment in the starting backcourt at 30 mins per, or (b) a super sub off the bench at 20 mins/night. Max makes (b) a real possibility. But we won’t know till PJ and AD are both healthy.
Pessimism doesn’t make you smart, just pessimistic.

Others may feel differently. He's still a good defender. He knows where to be and talks a lot on D. He has a high IQ on D which helps him be a lot more effective on D than the stats show. Often times, it's the little things like moving to push a player into the help or positioning himself to make it difficult on shooters. Klay will be very good with PJ, Lively/Gaff, and AD. He is very good at guiding players into the teeth of the D and closing in on them from behind. They pickup the dribble and get caught. He caused a lot of turnovers with GS that way. He can still do that very well. He's not the one on one defender he once was but there are very few better team defenders than Klay.

Some of you guys finally get it Mavericks need to start shrinking $ salaries. I'd rather have a like Ayo Dosunmu over klay with a PG like Bogdan. Dallas defense would be amazingly sick.
