Trade & FA 2024-25:
Smokescreen.

KD, Kyrie and AD just has a nice ring to it.

I think the possibilities are way more numerous than that. If they say no to his option (at about $45M), they can turn around and sign him to a deal starting at a lower number that's agreeable to both parties. And there's no reason to think he wants to leave HOU, or vice versa.

To speak to the idea of FVV and the Mavs - FVV is pie-in-the-sky in relation to the Mavs. Whatever that starting number might be that HOU would offer him, it's way bigger than what the Mavs can offer - the TxMLE of $5.7M.

Per @TheSteinLine

The Dallas - KD conversations were “overstated”.

That's exactly what I would put out if I was concerned half the team thinks they'll be traded this summer.

Looks like the Dubs are happy with Butler.

Yup.  What is the over/under of practices before Jimmy and Draymond throw hands?  My bet is 8.

Watched a video on YouTube just now that tried to tie the rumors together that we had interest in Ben Simmons with the fact we didn’t have any money for Ben Simmons.  The theory was that the interest was real, but when Caleb Martin refused to drop his trade kicker, the opportunity vanished.  I didn’t know if anyone had posted that here (can’t keep up with everything these days).

That makes me further wonder if keeping the deal open like we did was an effort to dump a bit more salary in order to create room under the apron for Simmons.  Summer target?

For a team supposedly in win now mode, seems like we would be better off with a healthy Grimes and Simmons instead of the broken Caleb.  They even had the chance to bail when he failed the physical.  I continue to be baffled by this TDL.

Low key, the Grimes for Martin trade may have been more lopsided than the Luka trade.  How much better would we be with Grimes and Simmons than Martin?  Insanity.

I did immediately call the Grimes trade as terrible as it took away one of the minor positives of the Luka trade: reducing the limit against the Hard Cap. Not necessarily the fact that Martin did not waive the TK, just in a general sense of cap management. To lose that deal twice (after the snag on medicals) is dumfoundingly dense. What can we give Detroit to get Lindsey back???

Christian Wood waived. Interested?
Mike Curtis (@MikeACurtis2)
Who would be Cade Cunningham’s dream opponent in a game of horse?

“I’ll say Dirk,” said the first-time All-Star.

Ok, I am ready to plot how to get Cade Cunningham into a Mavs jersey

I just have trouble thinking of Simmons going anywhere else besides LAC for a late season run. Maybe I am wrong though. I believe he lives out there too. Well, I guess a lot of players live out there.

Do you think there's a chance?  LOL

Step one is to convince Detroit to hire Nico as GM.

If we were dead set on trading Luka, he would have made more sense than AD from a long term perspective.

He sure wouldn't be interested to sign anything else but a contract until the end of the season.

Oh, I agree. He's becoming a legit star.  He's 6'7 - 6'8 big for a PG. He has improved from his injury-riddled first two seasons.

Do you know if the Mavs can offer that?

Not now. They don't have enough hard cap money for a ROS until there's only a couple weeks left.

Obviously Wood isn't of any interest anyhow, but I suspect that Edwards or Williams might be. (They only have roster room for 1 at the most.)
