Trade & FA 2024-25:
@TheSteinLine
Amid a growing belief leaguewide that Kevin Durant actually could be traded this week, sources say nothing has changed in Houston regarding its posture on a major in-season change.

The Rockets, as covered by @TheSteinLine repeatedly this season, want to give their young team a playoff shot. There have been no signals yet to suggest a possible audible at this deadline.

So the rumors were GSW, Mavs, and Rockets. And if they Rockets are bowing out, that means either the Warriors are using the Mavs as leverage, or the Mavs are actually in this.

I don’t believe it though.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones will have surgery on his right shoulder to repair a posterior labrum tear, I'm told.

While it's been said that Jones will be out indefinitely, I'm told that there is a fear that Jones could be out for the remainder of the 24-25 NBA season.

This season, Jones appeared in 20 games (all starts) with averages of 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 32.4 minutes per game.

I’d consider trading Klay and Marshall for a solid starter.

Why did they wait so long for the surgery? Wasted time trying to rehab I guess.

Also a great advertisement to never trade for him.
Why? It's only the truth. The exact opposite would be my conclusion let alone for this honesty, or do you prefer players that don't give a damn about wheather they get traded or not?

I hesitate to even respond to this, but he compared making millions of dollars playing a sport to slavery.  I get that it can be frustrating to never know when you are going to be traded, but that is a world he voluntarily entered (and can voluntarily leave) and comparing it to slavery is ridiculous.

What does a KD trade look like because there is a lot of chatter about it and it was even mentioned on TNT. I'm assuming 3 first round picks, Gafford, PJW, Klay and fillers?

This gets close. The Mavs would have to make a separate trade of Martin for 2 players making the minimum. Or only 1 and sign Edwards to the roster. It’s extremely unlikely something like this happens. Don’t get your hopes up.

The point he made was that it sucks to have no control. Yes, that's the system, but no even in all pro sports. Yes, they're paid well, but still: nobody likes having no say about where you gonna be. Just ask Luka.

Thanks for working that up. I don't have any hopes right now..lol. Just waiting to see what the team looks like after Thursday. It's just interesting to hear so many say the Mavs are after KD. Nico may be desperate to try to get fans back so who knows.

Its the real world.  People get forced to relocate or lose their job all the time.  But the LOL was not regarding his point, it was regarding how he made it.

Well, in the US maybe. In Europe it's different. There you can't simply fire anyone.

In the german language, this phrase is actually nothing special and often used in connection with pro sports, but I could imagine that it's percieved differently in the US.

Kyrie Irving clarified that just because he recruited Anthony Davis and Kevin Durant to form a trio in 2018, it isn’t “foreshadowing” to current events.

"In 2018 it was a dream for Kyrie, KD, and AD to all be on a team together"- Kyrie Irving.

The numbers are off on that trade anyhow, as is, and it would be rejected. Mavs would be taking about 4M too much.

It's essentially impossible to do a trade like this where all 3 teams must take back less or the same than they send away (with a very small fudge factor).

Warriors social media team posted a video of the team boarding the plane. Only issue, Wiggins, Hield, Looney, and Lindsey Waters III were not on the team plane.

Coincidence? Maybe. Timing is interesting and their salaries add up to 45 mil. Almost an exact match for Butler.

Marc Stein:

As for the notion that Dallas could be a possible landing spot for Durant in the wake of the seismic Luka Dončić/Anthony Davis blockbuster … The Mavericks do not appear, realistically, to be in position to make another significant move before this deadline.
In the offseason? Let's see. For now? They need time to integrate Davis, assess whether he can still thrive at power forward as Davis insists he can and likewise evaluate how Dereck Lively II recovers from a stress fracture in his right ankle. In a few months, perhaps, Dallas would be better positioned for another significant swing by building a trade package around draft capital and likewise being able to stomach surrendering one of its centers: Lively or the veteran Daniel Gafford.

[Stein] The Phoenix Suns are not limiting themselves to trade talks with the Warriors and have spoken with multiple teams about Kevin Durant. Both Houston and Dallas appear unlikely as trade destinations for Durant this season.

Per Stein and Fischer…

“There was no tangible expectation percolating in Dallas, as of Tuesday night, to suggest that the Mavericks were a true factor in the Durant chase.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks have had trade talks centered around De’Andre Hunter and Caris LeVert, per @ChrisFedor

“Multiple sources tell http://cleveland.com that the Cavaliers have expressed interest in Hawks sixth man De’Andre Hunter. Those talks with Atlanta, sources say, are centered on free-agent-to-be Caris LeVert — a fixture of Cleveland’s every-night rotation and a Kenny Atkinson favorite, going back to their days together with the Brooklyn Nets.”
