Trade & FA 2024-25:

RIGHT?

No way unless they want to do a 5 for 1 swap.

Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll ever get over this. I still remember losing Nash. This stings 10x as much and the more that comes out about how Luka just wanted to stay just piles on

Ironic that the fans are in the bargaining phase of this transaction, but the Mavs GM never was.

It pains me so much that we now have to scour the league for a superstar when we already had a top 3 one.

Insanity.

OK I need a break from the internet.

They might give us KD for that.

That is another no go from a defensive standpoint.  Honestly Lonzo makes a lot of sense right now.

We’re off about 15 mil there.

Booker is cheaper.

I really do think the expendables are Naji, Gafford, Grimes ( Sad ), Hardy, and Powell.

Naji+ Gafford gives us about 22 mill to work with. Maybe we use that to get a Cam Johnson?

Then go out to the bargain bin and hope Lonzo Ball is ready to play 38 mins a game?

Damnit..lol. Thanks for the explanation though. I don't know how they salvage this disaster. Everything is a must win now. I'm curious what they do next. I'm also scared of what they do next.

I fully expect either Gafford or Lively to be traded by Thursday and I'm hoping it's Gafford. That being said if Lively gets the Mavs a win now player, we know what the soulless Nico will do. He would trade his own mother for the right player.
I’m also just realizing, perhaps Nico doesn’t want to lose Gafford right now because Lively is hurt for the foreseeable future. If they really think AD is a 4, then we need a 5 and that is Gafford.

So Gafford is probably on the move, but probably in the summer.

Which hurts our chances to add any significant player right now anyways. Makes me wonder if they are going to go even harder at buyout guys than we think.

I can see the line of thinking, but it's going to take Gafford's salary to get anyone he wants so I think he'll trade him with the promise to AD that he will be the 4 once Lively returns.

maybe that's why we were so intent on getting below the tax line
doesn't that open up way more buyout options?

I say we empty the chest for Booker since we can get to his salary if that's a deal to be had. Since Beal won't waive his no trade clause, it might be possible if they don't get a KD deal that they like.

Just staying below the first apron opens up buyout options. Mavs if they make a small trade, say Hardy for a FRP or whatever doesn’t matter, can now offer 2 pretty good buyout contracts and stay far away from the first apron line.

I don't think there's any chance Booker is even slightly available.

Other than Dallas, teams don't trade stars in their mid-twenties unless they have to. The reason we're reading about KD trades is that they've figured out that have to retreat and try AGAIN to build around Booker.

But yes, that would be cool.
