Get used to it, brother. This is Nico’s plan.

Exact same things going through my mind.

Need another playmaker.

Is PJ Washington a small forward or trade bait?

Would they consider trading Lively? Nico said AD will start at 4 but could finish games at 5. Was he just talking temporarily while Lively is hurt?

What salary can we get to without trading AD, Kyrie, or PJ? I fully expect everyone else to be available by Nico and I will not be surprised at all if he uses Lively to land another high level player, as sickening as that sounds. It will be minor compared to losing Luka.

Lmao is that a serious question? Just kidding, but Nico doesn't have a soul.

I would be shocked if they trade Lively.  Although who knows know.   If he is talking about defense AD, Lively and PJ need to be your guys.   Gafford is great protecting the rim, but the other parts of his defense has some holes.    The issue is PJ, AD and LIvely are a weird mix.  Especially in todays game.

Nico only cares about the next 3-4 years so nothing will surprise me at this point.

Health is a tool. I don’t consider him untouchable after his latest injury.

Even if you want to play big, Lively Gafford AD PJ seems like too many bigs.

Might need to update the title. The Kelly signing was huge though Wink

Mavs finally found a taker for Maxi. Not just a hypothetical. They ended up having to add a couple of other players to get rid of him.

You can win a little, but it’s really not possible to win big with two non shooters. Davis will either have to play the 5, wasting DLive and Gafford, or the Mavs will need to trade for a stretch 5.

If you go to extremes, and keep only the top end of the roster (Kyrie, AD, PJW, Gaff, Lively, Klay, Christie) and everyone else is sent out the door, you have 7 players and about 141.15M in payroll, with a hard cap limit of 176.63M.

That's about 35.5M, but you have to add 7 players, not just 1.

It takes a lot of bodies outgoing, which makes the trade hard on the other team's roster, so you have to work through that issue too. IOW not very practical - but if they work it hard enough, they may have some angles to put together a package to work with. For example, what would a package of Naji-Grimes-Hardy get you? The salary outgoing is about 15M, which means they could probably take back a 20M player and leave room under the hard cap to add 2 other bodies.

If they are committed to staying under the tax line, the limits are much smaller. They are under right now, but not sure that's their limit if they can find the right player to add. I suspect they are looking hard for one more player, preferably a 2-way player that is good on defense AND can create some offense.

Totally, and I bet we should focus on Grimes as the main outgoing piece, so it would have to be a pretty inexpensive example of that type of player.

I don't think they're trading Marshall, and it sure doesn't seem like they're trading Gafford or PJW, having mentioned them both in the press conference. I think they're so focused on this year (for whatever reason) that I'd be less shocked to see Lively go this week than Gafford, honestly. Which is INSANE to me, but wouldn't be as shocking as trading Luka Doncic.

What does Grimes/Powell get you?

I think that's the deal they're looking for, personally.

You can get up to about a $12-$13 million returning player for this depending on what you do to fill the roster spot you just created (assuming Fanspo is up to date).  Cole Anthony and Coby White both fit into this salary range.

^ Coby White is the name I was going to mention also.

The Mavs HAVE TO get another playmaker if they are serious about winning now like Nico said.

Coby White does a lot for me, but I definitely wouldn't call him a two-way player, so I'm not sure he fits the exact criteria FGump laid out earlier. I'd certainly prefer him to Sexton, however.

Maybe we should think in terms of adding Hardy, or Hardy instead of Powell?

Alternatively, I wonder if they're about to throw gas on Hardy and just pray he's ready for a bigger role, rather than even target the type of player we all think they need?

I feel lost at sea here. I don't even feel like I have the pulse of what they're trying to do.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN. The Dallas Mavericks gave Luka Doncic an 11-day excused absence in late November to ‘shed weight after he had ballooned into the high 260s,’

All the dirty laundry is being aired now to quell the fans. I don’t think Nico nor the owners expected this backlash. And for that they are truly stupid.

I don't care if he was 300 lbs. The trade return was shit.
