I think they could get back Vucevic type of players. Good solid players. Just not players to raise them into a contender. And when James drops another level it really makes these type of players irrelevant.

The Kings and Nets are negotiating over first-round pick protections in a potential trade involving Cam Johnson, per @James_HamNBA (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KrbNiAlEjjM).
Brooklyn wants an unprotected future first for Johnson, but Sacramento currently is only willing to offer it protected.

I think Vuc would be a good fit next to AD, but what assets do they have that would make sense for CHI?

One of their future unprotected first and a guy like Rui. Not much, but I think they have been rooting for a first for Vucevic. I don't know if LAL would offer that for Vucevic though.
Oh I forgot Sam vecenie brought up an idea for PHX. Patrick Williams for Nurkic. Said Chicago could get off three extra years for a guy they have soured on...but signed to an extension this summer.

Can you be so sure he drops another level? I'm skeptical. He had another triple-double last night in a win. What he's doing at 40 years old is nothing short of remarkable.

With the DLive news on top of everything, it’s time to sell. Move what you can with an eye on setting yourself up for a window beginning next year. I’d even think about moving Kyrie. He’s been really solid as a player and person. It’s just business. We need to get younger since this is a lost season anyways.

It is super impressive. He is not the same player though as 5 years ago. He can't lead a team a contender as the best player any longer. A drop is definately coming. It just may be longer than we all think.

I'm not sure what selling means? I don't think there is any chance they trade Kyrie. The roster has been constructed so well the last two years that most of the other guys are young on good contracts that you want to keep for the future. Grimes is restricted so we should be able to hold onto him. Maxi will cost less to send out in offseason. I doubt we would get much of anything for Dinwiddie. There isn't really anything to sell other than Kyrie, and I just think that is a non starter.

Yeah, no way we move Kyrie. I meant Gafford if the right opportunity presents itself. Not just to sell for the sake of selling. But to continue to asset gather for another big move in the offseason.

Sending out Gafford in a trade now would be a total tank move that I don't think they want to make yet. Besides, there is a good chance he puts up big numbers as the starting center and improves his asset value.

I don't think DLive's injury changed anything with regards to Gaffords chances of getting shipped.
My idea was to look for a deal that would send out Gafford plus x (e.g. Maxi, Hardy, 2nds etc.) to receive a very good perimeter defender and a backup for DLive. So basically shift our powers from the Centers more to the Wings.
So now that Gaff will receive more court time and responsibility, his value will rise what could turn out to be the decisive factor to move the needle enough for a trade...

Talking to teams this week, a theme emerged that the Jimmy Butler situation is holding up the trade market some.
One assistant GM told me that his team has a deal basically done, but the other team could be in a four- or five-team Butler trade. So, they have to hold for now. That's slowed things.

Any value Portis has gets negated with Middleton and Connaughton.

Well that will largely depend on how the Kyrie extension talks are going. Kyrie has been a model citizen for the last two years. There has also not been much potential for conflict either. If he wants something like 200/4 guaranteed, he should be on the way out. Something like Simons/Avdija with the Lakers paying the tab with two 1sts saves us a lot of headaches.

No way, no how Kyrie gets moved. I'm not sure why everyone is so keen to move Gafford when DLive has proven he won't be available a tremendous amount of time.

Translation: "wherever Brad is willing to waive his no-trade to go, THAT'S the player we're interested in. Somehow, we've got to get off of this Beal contract so we can move forward."

Sorry to break it to you, but if Kyrie wants 4/200, that's what he'll get. That's the NBA for you. The Mavs will happily pony up. Kyrie is one of the most talented NBA players of all time. I think he will continue to be a great player for many years. He seems to take care of his body.
