MAVS NEWS:

Mavs guard depth is still pretty solid, but it’s not too late to sign DSJ.

falls back into the shadows

Off-base idea on many levels.

1  Mavs have no spending room. Hard capped from signing anyone else.
2  Mavs have a full roster.
3  We have been talking about how the Mavs will get minutes for all the playable guards. We already have backups to the backups on the roster, waiting. This merely makes minutes available for players like Dinwiddie, Grimes, and Hardy..

Doesn’t show up in the playoffs, plenty of missed games due to various injuries. One thing is for sure: there‘s always something going on with Exum.

There was a game later in the season where he lifted up his jersey and exposed a pillsbury doughboy belly. Not sure how it is possible for a professional athlete getting paid millions to have worse muscle tone than me. I’m in my 50s and work two jobs. I look like DK Metcalf in comparison. My very unscientific observation Smile

That is too bad. At his best, he filled a unique role this team needed last year. Not sure how much time he would get this year , but I was hoping for an open competition for this minutes. Injuries suck for him. Last year he would play well then get dinged. The. In the playoffs, you could tell Kidd didn’t really trust him much. He is one of those guys where you always expect the worse when he jumps in a crowd. His body just isn’t made for the physical play. I think he is good though. May be tough for him to fight for time if his injury isn’t year ending. Welcome to the nba. One man’s frustration is another man’s opportunity.

Big 3? Maybe I am reading way to much into this. Maybe other players were nearby or maybe no one else wanted to go to a game in Vegas....while in Vegas.

Regardless, pretty interesting sitting courtside are the most important members or your organization.....Your two super stars, your head coach, your GM. Not sure who the lady is....but the other guy sitting between Kidd and Nico is Lively.

Had some key moments to help win a few games last year contributing more value than he’s paid. He’s not paid to be a playoff performer. He’s paid to get a few minutes here and there to help the Mavs get though a grueling season. He does his job. I’m sad he’s injured but he Mavs still have guys who can do that job.

LOVE Dante and Maxi. Don’t care if they’re injured all season. Just want them around to contribute 10 minutes in the right playoff matchup. Perfect third stringers for a contender.

Of course fan jam means nothing and these guys aren't trying, but some thoughts:
  • DLive's energy is infectious
  • Grimes is a shooter. So smooth
  • Naji can really handle the ball
  • Omax dunked the ball off of 1 dribble from half court
  • Naji can really pass the ball

Naji looks like a more athletic Luka Doncic in that clip, doing everything - goodness gracious!

I'm not kidding the dude was doing everything.

His handles were great and the passes were on point. I was really surprised. Reminded me a bit of Lance Stephenson, but controlled.

Couldn't find the full version, but here is a pretty good recap.

I know it is glorified pickup, but man the Lively dunks are impressive.   I also thought Hardy had some really nice passes.    It would be good to see if he really pushes for playing time.   Playing time is really tight and it an uphill battle, but would love to see him force the team to give him time.

Grimes and, especially, Marshall looked good. Interesting that they played Lively and Sharp together, 2 7+ footers.

Marshall was making some really great passes. Granted it was against minimal (or less) defense, but the vision seems to be there. Could make for some interesting match ups if it translates well to a real game.

Hardy looks like he doesn't feel like he has to score every bucket, at least while DLive is on court. that's a step forward in my book.

I know Sharp is a project, but you can't teach height and he seems to move fairly well. Maybe a diamond in the rough?

I know there is speculation that Klay might not hold up defensively, or at least not well enough with Luka and Kyrie on the floor. But is there a case for moving Kyrie to the 6th man spot instead of Klay, and getting one of Marshall or Grimes in the starting rotation?
