AROUND the NBA:
(09-18-2024, 02:33 PM)SleepingHero Wrote: He apparently left about 20 million on the table from ESPN, and only informed the top brass there of his decision this morning. Definitely seems like Woj left on his own terms but who knows nowadays?

If I was an executive at ESPN and I just lost the biggest news breaker in the industry, I'd be pissed.

He's 55 and retired from ESPN prior to taking the spot.  There's no evidence that this was anything other than his next career.

How long until ESPN snatch him?

It's a good bet, they'll probably go after Chris Haynes or Shams to replace Woj.

Clippers star Kawhi Leonard underwent a procedure on his knee in the offseason, sources tell me and @LawMurrayTheNU. The franchise said today Leonard will be limited to strengthening his knee to start Clippers training camp, but team officials are optimistic about his progress.

@joeylinn_
Will Kawhi Leonard be ready for the season opener?

Lawrence Frank: “The timing is gonna depend how his knee responds to each phase… We’re trending in a good direction… but the timing when it comes to your body and your health, you don’t put time frames on it.”

Zach Lowe laid off at ESPN.

Good news…serious basketball people like Kendrick Perkins, Stephen A smith, Mike Greenberg and pat Mcafee still there

That sucks. He's one of the best NBA guys out there. They say his 6-figure salary was the reason
yet Screamin A, McAfee, and Greenie make more.

While ESPN has promoted many female reporters, I'm starting to think it's because they are cheaper. I'm not complaining one way or the other, but certainly changes my opinion of their motivation for doing so.

In 2024, their jobs start and end with the magic word: "engagement." Good, bad, doesn't matter. The more comments/views/likes they get, the better, which obviously prompts a skew towards the less intelligent.

Mike Judge was pretty prophetic, and his film is somehow less funny as I grow older.

Magic Johnson says Anthony Edwards needs to win something before he talks

“You might want to talk trash when you’ve won something. You know, if this came from some of the guys who just won on the Celtic team, OK, you might want to look at it. But you haven’t won anything. If I’m Anthony Edwards, I’m concerned about the Dallas Mavericks, about OKC, about Boston, about all these great teams. … Concentrate, because you got beat by the Mavericks. You didn’t make it to the championship. So I’m concentrating on that instead of what happened in a time you wasn’t born.”

The Grizzlies announced Vince Williams Jr. suffered a stress reaction in his tibia.

Williams will miss at least the opening week of the regular season before being reevaluated.

The former second-round selection is slated to play a large role in Memphis’ rotation.

As a new WNBA fan, and having enjoyed every minute of the Fever's season, I think these guys should donate 10% of their earnings to the WNBA. Those girls provide as much (if not more) entertainment to the fans.

Sources: Milwaukee Bucks star Khris Middleton (procedures on both ankles) has not been cleared for five-on-five action with training camp commencing Oct. 1. He’s progressing nicely, but team is taking a cautious approach as he’s expected to take part in most of camp activities.

Middleton will not be the same player he was when they won the chip just 3 years ago.
