Jeanie Buss says LeBron's contract is still a bargain.

With the new TV deal, the Mavs run and and maybe now expansion, it certainly feels like Cuban left money on the table.  Thoughts?

Cuban absolutely left money on the table. I suppose he valued the 27% he's left with...?

Not sure. Feels like Cuban could've easily gotten 4.5 or even 5 billion if he waited for a bit. I guess having a piece of the future casino in Dallas is worth that pay cut.

I'm guessing the Mavs carried a lot of debt, which impacted the value of the team when he sold it. While the franchise looks successful on paper because of appreciation, you don't get any of that in your bank account. The Mavs were also probably forced to revenue-share with other teams because of the DFW market size, and media rights with RSN's have become quite unreliable as a source of income.

Over time negative cash flow turns into bigger and bigger debt, which compounds against revenues. And it was slated to get even worse going forward - with a deeper talent base and Luka about to hit supermax status, there will be way more payroll and tax ahead every year.

For a certain number of years, there are depreciation tax write-offs that allow an owner to offset the cash drain with tax savings, but eventually that equation erodes when the losses are bigger and the write-offs (based on economics from years ago) are relatively smaller.

Adelson is a MUCH BIGGER fish financially in relation to the cash to erase all the past debt and start fresh, along with cash to sustain annual outlays. She also gets brand new write-offs using today's economics. It's a completely different model for her.

There's a ton to what you are saying.  Cuban said that the ownership turned into more real estate investment, development, management than basketball ops.  Cuban hates real estate investment, is all about marketing products and services.

GOAT Clark just demolished the Chicago Sky... 31 Points, 12 Assists, 4 Rebounds... on 57/60/90% shooting!

Are you guys watching any of this? This girl is special. It's like 1984 all over again, when MJ entered the NBA. She should be on the WNBA 1st Team and in the MVP conversation, in her rookie season. So if you missed 1984, don't miss this. Big Grin

And still ESPN (BSPN?) has the nerve to insinuate that Reese is leading the ROTY... while Reese was stat-padding in the final minutes against the Fever's reserves to get a double-double, lol.

Meh. Happy for her, but wake me up when she's playing against the guys.

You're missing out on all the fun and excitement, KL!

I can't find a better way for men's basketball fans to fill the void of the NBA off-season than keeping up with GOAT Clark and the Fever.

Honestly, it's more fun than even the NBA. Tongue

WNBA is great comedy sometimes for sure.

Aside from Clark, who is the only skilled WNBA player I've seen, it's a comedy fest.

FYI that's not a sure timeline. That's the Roddy B injury.

So you're saying it's time for Memphis fans to start the chant "Free GG"?

I found this image from 7 years ago detailing all NBA players up until that point, so 2017, who sustained a 5th metatarsal fracture and the games they missed:

The average missed game time for this injury was 39.5 games.
