Olympics 2024
Hoylshit now I understand why France is fancied here. They just got Hachimura out of the game with two BS unsportsmanlike calls that resulted in two FTs +ball. Both were normal fouls. Damn. As Sheed said ball don´t lie they missed three of the four FTs.

Didn´t help them either. Japan still wins.

I stand corrected. The dumb Japanese guard just gifted France a four point play with a four point lead.

When Bonga is hitting his threes he looks like a 20m per year 3&D wing but if I had to pick a player from Germany to replace Maxi (need to have at least one German...in a perfect world someone from Wurzburg...on the roster) Andreas Obst woud be my first, second and third choice.

so what is the qualifications of who can make our 3 on 3 team? Jimmer is the only one I knew. The rest are randoms. Can NBA players not play? Odd team by team usa. Clearly analytics haven't hit 3 on 3 yet.

I would think you would want one horse down low...someone like Kenneth Lofton if you are thinking non NBA players. Then fill the rest of the team with guys who can get by their man. Lets say Lance Stephenson type players.. Then have a few shooters on the bench. Even if you were picking non NBA players....their needs to be better talent out there than what we had.

Three is king in 3on3 the way the rules has been set. 3 counts twice as much as any other basket. That is why you see all the time they are just letting an open layup only to not get a three (and potentially quickly score a three on next possession). Player like Jimmer should be perfect for 3on3, I was surprised he wasn't more impactful against Serbia (I just caught the game). I am also surprised we don't see more established players, but 3on3 is a very different game than regular basketball.

Don´t think there are any limitations. Team USA has at least one WNBA player and Germany took two regulars from their national basketball team. I assume on paper the USA could play with Brunson, Brown and Kawhi.

Exactly - especially since you don’t keep possession after scoring, otherwise a safe layup or short range shot would be more effective. The three also increases the chance for offensive rebounds. Another mighty shot is an „and 1“, because you get a free throw to double your score when you finish a layup with a foul.

Which three players of the current US national team would you put on the floor?

I get the three pointer...and it is a good point.  From what I watched though, the free throws are a big advantage too.  That is why I think if you can have guys who can get to the rim you are probably getting a high percentage shot and/or a free throw.

The USA team had Jimmer who is a an elite shooter, but limited in other top level skills.   The rest of the team seemed odd though.   I didn't recognize any of the names but just seemed sort of average without an elite skill.

Apparently you have to be apart of the national 3v3 circuit for a set amount of time to qualify for the Olympics. So no current NBA players are likely to ever be apart of it.

Curry, KD, Ant

Just shoot 3s, no defence needed Wink

Chet Holmgren, Cooper Flagg, Jaylen Brown... could have made a great 3x3 team, and they're not playing 5x5.

Embiid went from starter to DNP after just two games. No soft whistle. No FTs. No superstar.

I‘m with you on Curry and KD, but not sure I‘d go with Ant.
Wouldn’t a strong rebounder and screen setter make some sense? Embiid is a no-go because he can’t defend in space and would take every shot himself, so I think I‘d roll with AD, with Bam as plan B.

Curry, KD, AD

I doubt it. This is a high stamina, quick release 2pt shot game. I don´t think Holmgren would be suited for either. Prime Dame would probably be perfect for this. Lavine is another I could see doing very well. Basically all the high volume high degree of difficulty 3pt shooters and a good center/rebounder.

Damn what. He is out already? This has to be protested by Philly. Come on Morey. Raise a stink like Boston with Tatum. Give us a chance.Embiid 40 minutes. Tongue

Embiid won't start every game. Kerr is determining his starters depending on the matchups of other teams, and he's doing a masterful job.  He said South Sudan has a fast, quick team, hence Embiid was out of the lineup. USA is so deep; it won't really matter who starts. Whoever comes in off the bench destroys people. That's the advantage they have.

Defensive lockdown and scorching offense in the first half.

What a game… Schroeder and Franz Wagner easily the best players on the floor - and Franz dunking over the whole French team, goodness gracious!

France couldn't keep up today - they really lack a good playmaker

But Germany is just playing great team basketball - on both sides of the floor.

And I personally realy love their reaction to that monstrous Franz dunk. More precisely what they didn't do: act like crazy, like a lot of US players would have if they had such a highlight play...
