NBA Summer League Jul 12-22: Hawks Druisic Breaks Foot

No surprise, but Bronny needs a lot of work.  I am just not sure G league is the place for him to develop where everyone scores.  Really needed a few more years in college imo.  He doesn’t have an ego though and plays hard

He reminds me a LOT of JJ Redick. Composed, under control, and an absolute sniper from 3.

Teams made mistakes passing on cam Whitmore. Maybe his knee doesn’t hold up or something else happens, but there are not a lot of people with his size, explosion and skill

Jarrace Walker is finishing everything around the rim. But don't ask him to put the ball on the floor or make a pass. Playing small ball center in g-league. Wouldn't be suprised if RC tries to turn him into a full time center.

No idea how I quoted myself. Reed Shepard looked good.

This draft reminds me of the Haliburton draft where Wagner and Haliburton and Avdija should’ve all gone higher but teams went for “upside.” I wonder where GSW would be if they’d taken any of those guys instead of Wiseman. I think Devin Carter may wind up being better than the French guys not named Ajinca.

Maybe I just have a thing for 6'9/6'10 guys with KD-esque ability to move with and without the ball but Risacher looks promising. Obviously not a top three pick in an average draft class.
Sarr can protect the rim but I expected more on offense. Not aggressive. Allergic to contact in the paint. Settling for jumpshots.

I think it would be funny for a plucky commentator to refer to Reed as a Rich Man's J.J. Redick, to have some fun with the latter. Big Grin

It's early days, one of his strengths in college was his ability to pass the ball.

I think he'll quickly become one of the NBA's best shooters.

He's surprisingly active and impactful defensively.

He has star potential.  The Rockets roster looks pretty loaded.  They're my surprise pick to win 50 games this upcoming season.

The Rockets gon be a problem in a couple of years. I think they might even make the playoffs as soon as this 2024-25 season, if they can get a good backup Center who gives them something similar to what Lively and Gafford give the Mavs.

1-4. OKC, Mavs, Minny, Nuggets

5-7. Kings, Pels, Suns

8-10. Grizzlies, Clippers, Rockets (they can definitely jump up to 5th-7th bracket with a good backup Center)

11-12. GSW, LAL

13-15. Spurs, Jazz, Blazers

Denver Nuggets No. 22 overall pick DaRon Holmes II has suffered a torn right Achilles tendon, sources tell
@TheAthletic@Stadium. He’s expected to miss the 2024-25 season. Devastating blow for one of the Nuggets’ promising young pieces.

Tough offseason for Denver.  With Holes out and moving Reggie Jackson they are out 6 second round picks.

Really tough injury for Holmes as he starts his career.  He was set to be in. A good position.  Eventually backup center and potentially a guy who could also play with jokic.  Just a real tough injury

Devastating blow - and almost unheard of for young guys at the beginning of their careers, at least in basketball, isn’t it? Let‘s hope he makes a full recovery and is able to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA.

The Rockets have Jock Landale who is a solid backup big but also will have Steven Adams available this season as he bounces back from his PCL injury.   They will be one of the deepest and most athletic teams in the NBA.

I like your tiers and mostly agree.  However, I think the West is even tougher than that and I'd add the Grizzlies to that 2nd-tier competing for 5th through 8th.  As you suggested, I think the Rockets will compete for the 5th through 8th spots as well.

I also think the Spurs have a shot at a 9th-11th spot.  Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes plus Wemby gets them close to 40 wins.   Only the Trailblazers and Jazz look like typical lottery teams.

The West is a slaughterhouse and several good teams will finish in the lottery.

If there was ever a time for him to have this devestating injury, the best chance of recovery is as early as possible.

Horrible injury luck and tough blow for Denver.

Reminds me of Len Bias.

He just couldn’t recover from his injury.
