Interesting. If true, the Mavs thought Grimes was a better player than Green, even at the deadline last year.

I’m trying to stay levelheaded, but it’s difficult not to get my hopes up about some of these guys. I’m pretty excited to have more guys around who will look to shoot.

I hope I can add some more fuel to your Grimes fire. There was a point with the Knicks that they refused to add him to any Donovan Mitchell trade. That's how valuable they viewed him.

Then some injuries and new additions led to him falling out of the rotation. I am super stoked over Grimes and what he can be here.

The film I’ve watched on him he looks like he’s got better handles than Green. More willing of a shooter as evidenced by his attempts. And a more solid defender than Green. While Green is a better athlete. Better finisher at the rim. A bit faster and with more energy.

But as you noted the other day, the film can lie

Mavericks assistant coach Jared Dudley is reportedly drawing interest from new Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson to join him on his staff; Dudley was with Atkinson as a player with the Nets #MFFL

Getting tired of the poaching attempts.

Agreed. But I will say I don't see the allure for Dudley to leave the Mavs to go be an assistant elsewhere. If its for a head coaching position I'd understand but as of now I don't get it.

Maybe Dudley likes Atkinson though.

It sucks, but on the other hand, at least the Mavs' current assistants are the type teams want to poach.

I think the allure is that he will get a more prominent role. My recollection is that he was not an "OTB" assistant in 23-24. Being the Lead Assistant (Sweeney) or one of the next two Bench Assistants is how your name gets mentioned for the HC jobs in the future. Not sure exactly how many assistants the Mavs carry on the bench, but they have several second row assistants and my recollection is that is where he has been the last two seasons. IIRC he is in line to become one the top 3 AC's in Dallas this year.

And we wanted them all fired a few months ago Smile

Definitely interesting. Started looking at some of the background on Grimes, and he’s almost exactly the same size as Green, only a few months older, and of a similar draft pedigree. He’s definitely the Green replacement, but in the form of someone who appears to be more willing to take an open shot. I always rooted for Green to succeed, but I’m all in on Grimes now…let’s see what this guy’s got.

Nico Harrison on Quentin Grimes:

“Quentin provides us with another young, versatile ball handler who can make shots. We're a young team with a lot of energy, and we're excited to incorporate his athleticism and ability to play both on and off the ball. His toughness in defending multiple positions, is exactly the complement we’re hoping to see here in Dallas.”

Nico Harrison on Naji Marshall:

“The addition of Naji enhances our team's defensive versatility, rebounding, and playmaking abilities. He plays with great energy, and as one of the top competitors within the NBA, we are eager to see him contribute to our success.”

Also wanted Grimes before Brunson's contract expired and he signed with the Knicks. Said the Mavs should at least try to get Grimes (and Sims) back in a S&T then. Sims would have done then what Lively/Gafford do now.

Gotta toot my own horn, since y'all don't wanna... give credit where its due. Tongue

I found it interesting he was also a top 10 recruit in high school, just like Josh.

He also has a maternal brother who plays in the NHL.  I guess they never lived together though if Wikipedia is to believed.  Pretty cool to have one son in the NBA and the other in the NHL.

So there's been some minor talk about Malachi Flynn as a Mavs target. Not much, but a little.

He was having a pretty decent run in Detroit, but these bottom-feeding teams were like Toronto were just trade-happy and he was shipped all over the place early on. And then traded again. Still, I watched a lot of video of him during his draft year, and really liked his offensive game.

So I went out looked to this 50-point game he had in Detroit, and he is still a terrific looking offensive player. I love watching him. Don't ask me about his defense, because I have no clue. But he's a great guy to watch. That jump shot is sweet.

Nico Harrison on Klay Thompson:

“We’re thrilled to have Klay join us in Dallas. As one of the league’s greatest shooters who competes on both ends, we feel Klay is a perfect fit for our team. He adds a strong, experienced veteran voice that will help us continue to build on the success we’ve seen in recent years. Klay’s championship experience, clutch performances and calm demeanor under pressure exemplify what it takes to win in the NBA at the highest level. He will help us continue to grow towards our goal of winning another championship.”

Charlotte.

That 2025 2nd could be either Charlotte's own or Philly's. Hasn't been specified.

Edit: Holdup. Could also be Denver's given that they sent 3 2nds to Charlotte.
