Trade & FA 2024-25:
Evan Sidery (@esidery)
DeMar DeRozan is the final free agent remaining who LeBron James is willing to take a $20 million pay cut for, per @jovanbuha (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5610546...r-derozan/).

The Lakers and Bulls have discussed the possibility of a sign-and-trade involving DeRozan.

Marcus Morris to fill the backup 4 spot? Hire our own Morris FA as a bench coach..

Just wondering about the value of Morris and Powell. There may be some off-court reasoning to keep them that fans aren't privy to, but those two are empty chairs for the most part.

Still, almost anyone acquired now won't get many minutes. What do you do?

Would the league even be able to tell the difference if we just kept both and swapped them out every other game?

Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs agree to 3 yr, 150.3 extension that includes a PO for 27-28

I'm saying add the good Morris as the 14th guy. Not the (good vibes) Morris we had last year. The good vibes Morris can be hired as a coach if he's that important to morale.

The MacMahon report now is Luka wants DSJ, so we'll see what happens. They have a really good roster as-is. Great time to be a Mavs fan!

If Luka is saying to bring back DSJ, I think we have to bring back DSJ....

Also he has turned himself into a defensive specialist.

Luka/DSJ/Exum
Kyrie/Grimes/Hardy
Klay/Marshall
PJ/Maxi/OMax/Morris
Lively/Gafford/Powell

And we rock n roll.

Need add 2 more players at min type contracts. Figure out how. I need backup vet pg and big man.

I’m perfectly fine with DSJ being added. We talked yesterday about adding PG depth as the final move and he was on your list of guys. If he’s at the top of Luka’s list. Do it.
Maybe the Mavs have really soured on Exum. I like that it moves him to 3rd PG actually. That way you’re not counting on him, rather anything he gives you is a plus.

Big difference on how I/We viewed him heading into the playoffs…

Waive Lawson and you're shopping with enough space for 2 vet min contracts.

At that point just go down the list of guys and point out who you like.

A guard is an option too. Exum is third in line after Luka and Kyrie. If he is injured or if Luka or Kyrie miss some time, we really don’t have a lot of lack left. I have PTSD watching out offense last year with Kyrie and Luka out. So a guy on a two way who you trust is a must. I would be fine bringing in a guy like DSJ too. It is just tough though because you can’t really guarantee any minutes.
Question, what is the impact of the cap and apron if we didn’t spend the 4 million or so left and just extended Hardy to a similar deal as Chrisite? Maybe sign a minimum instead?

I think extending Hardy would be a smart, productive move. Either as a piece here or trade piece down the road. I think him on a 8 million dollar deal would be attractive to other teams. More so if he makes a jump. Or maybe he stays here and grows into a bigger role.

I‘d like that as well - we should keep in mind that Kyrie has missed a ton of games in basically all seasons before last year, so he could always go down for a couple of weeks. Having another PG to keep us winning enough games without him can‘t hurt.

Well, it's decided then. Welcome back DSJ!

Absolutely. The thing that sticks out most to me about the Mavs bench is, the position flexibility. Lot of options to stagger minutes and cover for injuries and/or rest. One of the deepest, youngest and more versatile Mavs teams I can recall. Oh, and the top end talent isn't too bad either.  Wink

Don't you think it would be better to have Kyle Lowry than DSJ?

Kyle Lowry does basically everything DSJ does and still has a much better 3-point shot.

I think Lowry won´t leave Philly. That´s home and he can compete for a championship there.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings are showing interest in Lauri Markkanen, per @JakeLFischer

“In addition to Golden State, Sacramento and San Antonio have been the two other teams characterized by league figures with knowledge of the situation as strong possible suitors for Markkanen at this point. For the Kings to land Markkanen, NBA personnel believe the Jazz would require Sacramento to part with Keegan Murray, and that might leave other trade options like Brandon Ingram as a more palatable outcome for the Kings. Minnesota has shown interest in Markkanen as well, sources said. Philadelphia never appeared to place real attention on Markkanen throughout the Sixers’ long approach of finding a third star to slot between Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.”

Lowry definitely has the experience factor over DSJ. And one could argue he has a better 3pt shot.

But today as a defender I think DSJ has beaten him out. Plus you gotta consider if Luka is requesting a guy, something he rarely (if ever) does, then that should bump him to the top of the list.
