Trade & FA 2024-25:

Would he be interested in taking a pretty massive pay-cut signing a 1+1 4.5 mil deal?

Could do worse. The weakest link on the roster now is having to play an oft-injured Maxi at the 4. I don’t see the Mavs trading him now but maybe someone like Kyle can finally move Maxi to the 3rd center/5-out only option.

I'm cool with giving Kleber another shot as stretch big.

I just don't want him playing very many minutes at the 4, whatsoever, both for load management AND because I think he sucks at it.

There's nothing wrong with Lively/Gafford/Kleber/Powell at the 5. That's too much, maybe.

Right now, unless O-Max is penciled in as a rotation player, we're gonna see a lot of forward combinations like Thomposn/Marshall, Thompson/Grimes, Marshall/Grimes, etc, when Washington sits.

Dario Saric or Xavier Tillman for the small ball five role if the Mavs free up more than the vet min.

So you're ready to write Exum off completely?

And, you're uninterested in creating a path to minutes for Grimes?

I think the Mavs might bring in a minimum player there, like a Dinwiddie, but I think they'll play about as much as Seth Curry did last season.

Well if we traded Powell for air, we could offer Anderson a deal up to 6mil.

Roster:

Luka/Exum
Kyrie/Hardy/Grimes
Klay/Marshall/
PJ/Anderson/OMax/Morris
Lively/Gafford/Maxi

Can't they get the BAE by just waving Lawson? Seems like a no-brainer.

I think you can get away with some combination of Luka and Marshall to handle that role.

Tbh, there's probably more debate about the earth being round than there is about the Bulls trying to dump those contracts.

Even better, they can just close out the rest of the MLE (almost same amount).

There might be a usable player for that. It's a little more than the minimum, if I'm understanding.

No not completely. But for all the good moments Exum had last year, he looked almost unplayable in the playoffs. Which took me by surprise.

I'm not advocating for a massive shift in the guard spot. I think Hardy and Grimes need their minutes. But on the nights that Exum is unavailable, it'd be nice to know we have a seasoned vet who knows what it takes (like Lowry) waiting to lead the guys.

True, which would free up more time for Grimes, Hardy, etc.

Plus, I like that there's at least a chance of O-Max breaking through on the current roster.

I would be fine with this for sure. Lot of versatility.

If the Mavs used the rest of their MLE, it'd be a little more than double a vet min contract.

*But this means Morris is not returning.

It would be nice if O-Max solidified himself as the backup 4, however I don't know if I want to rely on that plan completely.

mavericks hired the coach lebron likes, traded for the running mate lebron wanted to reunite with, made the finals, and just signed the player he was willing to take a discount for. and lebron still is an unsigned free agent.

Grimes is probably top 7 on the roster.  He will be more than third string.

Is it? From what I found out about him he is much more a guard than a forward.

So my thinking was they might try him as a point guard to find out if they could use him at least in case of emergencies there - and thus invest whatever is left on a big man.
