Trade & FA 2024-25:
(07-01-2024, 01:16 AM)mvossman Wrote: I mean the warriors came to the same conclusion last season, and he is only getting older.  I’m struggling to see how it’s going to work without a POA defender. Maybe Lively turns in to Gobert and can make up for 3 questionable defenders. I just think the Mavs found something that really worked up until the finals and throwing it away feels like unnecessary panic move.

My problem is not that Thompson brings more offense. I think we need that. That´s why I so heavily advocate a player like Anfernee Simons. My problem with Klay is that he does not solve one of our biggest problems: play-making and work relief for Luka/Kyrie. We literally have nobody that can run the offense sufficiently and get buckets for himself, when Luka or Kyrie need rest/are injured. Maybe the plan is to get Klay and then trade for another point guard like Tyus Jones or something.

At this stage we have not traded Green yet. Might still get it done with just Kleber, especially if Golden State has no interest in salary returns.

No idea whether this is legal (probably is)

Grimes BAE
Thompson for THJ TE
Marshall for Kleber

That should be 163.2 + Klay Thompson´s salary. So that gets us to roughly $15M as a starting salary without giving up Green.

At that point we could possibly find a trade of Tobias Harris (roughly $12-13M starting salary) for Green + Powell and sign a vet min PG (Dinwiddie?) + C (Bitadze?). That should be right at the 1st apron, few dollars give or take, or am I seeing things that are not there.

Doncic/Dinwiddie/Exum
Irving/Grimes/Hardy
Thompson/Marshall/Lawson
Washington/Harris/O-Max
Lively/Gafford/Bitadze

We will finally have a legitimate third scorer on a nightly basis and he will do it without needing a ton of iso plays being called for him but within the flow of the offense.

Also we still have plenty of options to lock down fools. Lively, Gafford, PJ, Grimes, Marshall, Exum, Kleber. That’s seven (!) guys who play above average defense in their area on the court. Kidd will have plenty good lineup possibilities and he’s already shown that he can build a lockdown defense despite HUGE midseason roster changes.

I think it’s time to sit back and have some trust in this FO. They appear to have a clear vision for this team all while being super flexible to me if changes are needed to be made on the fly.

You're smart!

As far as I know the Mavs didn't use their BAE last summer. If the big fish hunt ends in a crash and burn scenario and nothing else happens they should have ~4m under the first apron. Not the worst case scenario considering that quality role players will have to settle for the minimum.
If Klay goes la. Just trade green for best player can get. Sign Spencer and another vet pf to minimum deals.
Looks like Deebo is either Spencer's favorite barber, running Spencer's favorite dining place, trying to hook up with Spencer or just Spencer himself ;D

He was good here. Bring him back on the cheap.

Pretty sure Mavs still want back as well.

Smart move.
Aaron Wiggins got a similar deal than Joe
Maxey gets 5 yrs 204 million. They're out on Klay now I would assume.

They were with Drummond and Oubre deals. They only have a couple of mil of cap space left and no exceptions

Stein: I do think this will play out today. I've been writing (and hearing) the same thing Friday: Mavericks in a strong position -- some would go so far as to say the best position -- but obviously it is only done when it is done. And I totally get the apprehension because the Mavericks and their fans are used to disappointment in free agency. Klay decided to hear the Lakers out and sleep on the decision and that means everyone has to wait. This is free agency and apparently Klay wanted to experience some of it.

Some rumors also, that Mavs and GSW are working to find a third team to take the contract necessary to make money work. So this could be the holdup, not Klay himself.

Another interesting option. Markkanen is supposed to become available by Utah and GSW would like to have him. Pretty easy to match his salary. Green and Kuminga plus draft assets could make a nice offer for Utah.

[Wojnarowski] Free agent center Jalen Smith has agreed on a three-year, $27 million contract with the Chicago Bulls, sources tell ESPN. Smith’s agents at Klutch Sports reached deal with Bulls front office overnight.

you is right dee bro. Spencer hit' em big shots n shed some workload off luka & Kyrie as ball handler. don't think he accept minimum though, bi-annual expection may work imho.
Is De'Anthony Melton still available? If yes, does the Mavs FO have enough dollars to sign him?

G: Kyrie, Hardy, Exum
G: Grimes, Melton, Lawson
F: Luka, Naji, Green
F: PJW, Maxi, O-Max
C: Lively, Gafford, Not-Dwight (Goga Bitadze?)
Melton is poor man's Derrick white imho, really good combo guard with solid D, would be a nice addition to our team but I don't think we have enough money to sign him now that more than half of the MLE has already been used. Philly renounced rights to him so a sign and trade isn't doable either. maybe mavs FO can find a way to get it done though.
