When it comes to Harris and Thompson…….give me whichever one is willing to come off the bench whenever we ask
If neither of them agree………then we’re done. Stay under the tax line. Play out the season and make changes from there if needed

Seems like the Mavericks were very upfront with him about trying to infuse some offense into the starting lineup. That’s the only explanation I can come up with right now, anyway. I suppose alternatively, maybe the Mavericks literally did not want him back?

guess how long we'll wait before Leonard requests a trade, now that George has moved elsewhere. even if Leonard returns to health somehow he would not be part of their long term plan probably so yes they do need more defense now.

They for sure wanted him along with Thompson or Harris, or whoever. But maybe we all ignored what DJJ wanted. And that was definitely to play 30+mins and start.

There's only about 7.5M spread to the Apron, minus a cushion (because it's a hard cap), minus incentives that get added in, so they only would have about 5M of Apron room. Would they chase a SNT w NO to spend that Apron room? Seems unlikely. The total amount they can spend would continue to be an issue. (Getting Klay would require adding spending room by sending out Green and his 12.65M salary.) Because of the tax situation, I don't think the Mavs will keep spending and swapping, unless it's to get someone they think would make a BIG difference. ![]() • BigDirk41, From Dirk to SCREW YOU Nico, KillerLeft, SleepingHero

Yes. Good for DJJ. Doesn’t matter if our two guys we got to replace him are as good or perhaps better Nico apparently knew we lost him and also knew whe we could get to replace what we lost. I’m planning to write a post about what our players need to improve. My list for DJJ was not short though I did love his defense. Now I hope he enjoys his bag and hurts the Clippers.

LA being a big market also makes part of the motive for him to sign there imho. money is what matters most for him it's understandable, and a starting role will grant him more money in his next contract which will be his first (and also probably the only) lucrative contract for him, assuming he can continue to play this good, or even better over the next three years. Nico must have known this (or been notified from DJJ's side) so he had to resort to plan b. (06-30-2024, 10:33 PM)Deebo Wrote: Don’t need jones any more. No room for him. Y’all just want a team of wings??? Get me spencer back and a vet pf/c on minimum deal. I kind of agree with this.... Grimes, Green, Exum, Naji can be enough wings. Do not want Dinwiddie though. I'd rather get someone with more potential, like Coby White. G: Kyrie, Coby G: Grimes, Green, Exum F: Luka, Naji F: PJW, Maxi, O-Max C: Lively, Gafford, Not-Dwight

Derrick Jones Jr. opted out of his Bulls contract to bet on himself, started NBA Finals games for Dallas and now heads to the Clippers for $30M—-and clogs up pathway for DeMar DeRozan as Paul George replacement.

So, some reality checks here...
Naji Marshall is just fine. He can guard POA just fine (especially on a team with good rim protection). Between Marshall, Grimes, PJ and our centers, we haven't dropped off on D much if at all (depends on minutes and rotation more than personnel). Nobody gave a rats ass when DJ was signed. Total non-event. Marshall comes in with his latest season being better than anything Jones Jr. ever achieved. We all liked the devil we knew. He worked out incredibly well. But any perceived drop-off from DJJ to Marshall will not likely be our biggest problem (and no, DJJ isn't coming back and we aren't trading for Thybulle...stop it). Right now Josh Green is our starting 3. Starters are Center, PJ, Green, Kyrie, Luka Backups are Center, Maxi, Marshall, Grimes, Exum. Hardy and OMax will continue to scrap for developmental minutes. Personally, I'm fine if this is it. I'm fine if we make a deal to upgrade a starting spot (Green being the obvious choice). Thompson gets you premium shooting, but not a ton else (self-creation days are largely over). I'd also be fine if we dealt Maxi for Tobias. He can do more with the ball and that is a need for the second unit. I'd be all about the 6-9 spots being Grimes, Naji, Tobias and Lively with one of our stars. Really, any of those guys could start instead of Green, but the rotation might make more sense with Tobias as a secondary creator off the bench. I'd still be fine with Green for better creators like Bogdan or even Sexton (he'd definitely need to come off the bench). We have the means for one more move. Net improvement is still within our reach. Heck, I'm not sure we haven't achieved it already. Grimes/Marshall for Jones is all that really matters from a playoff perspective and Jones was losing minutes that last series. One more move, whether Klay or Tobias or really anyone more valuable than Green or Maxi and we are good to go IMHO. ![]() • AgGIE1991*, Arioch, audiosway, BigDirk41, chaparral, From Dirk to SCREW YOU Nico, Jmaciscool, KillerLeft, LifeAquatic, MarkAguirreWrathofGod, Reunion Mav, Scott41theMavs, Smitty, Tyler
