Trade & FA 2024-25:
you never knew DJJ would be such good fit for bus the same time last year though. Marshall may turn out to be even better imho. it's interesting to see which other team djj is going to join, what money he is gonna get and whether the extra money he gets will be enough to compensate for no longer having the benefits of playing alongside luka/Kyrie tbh.

BREAKING: LeBron James called Klay Thompson right when free agency opened. The conversations will likely go through the night before a resolution tomorrow, via Woj

Woj says in the video that Klay's agents have had extensive conversations with Dallas and Clippers. Lakers as well.

From watching his highlights he’s solid defensively. Not as quick as DJJ so I’m not sold as him being a POA guy full time

If we fail with Klay couldn't we take Marshall in via the trade exception and then theoretically keep DJJ via the MLE?
I´m honestly not that impressed with the numbers for Marshall. 18/3 seems more appropriate. His defensive on/off was horrible in the play-offs after being very good in the regular season. Rest of his career he´s basically a +/- 0 overall. Last season was first he shot well from three, but also on a very low attempts. Sounds familiar. I think that 27/3 certainly counts on future development.

Mavs used a significant chunk of their MLE to sign Naji Marshall, filling need for perimeter defender.

Derrick Jones Jr.’s decision to switch agents this week complicated hopes of re-signing him due to NBPA guideline of 15-day wait to change representation.

Mavs are pursuing sign-and-trade routes for Klay Thompson.

This 15 day wait may have cost us DJJ and possibly cost him a lot of money. Teams aren't going to wait around for DJJ. I wanted him back, but the old Mavs would have waited the 15 days, only to lose out on him and not have a backup plan.
if Klay decides elsewhere does mean we still lose djj anyway because we don't have a full MLE no more?

Yes they could do that. But Mavs have to send something to the Pelicans to make that happen. Like cash considerations and maybe the contract of Keith Van Horn.

They had damn well 1) better have a backup plan for Klay (I imagine it's Harris) and 2) not give Klay the farm. THJ money is the farm, even in the new CBA era.

will miss Flight 55 - the vertical threat he provides, the defense on the SGAs of the world..i hope grimes and marshall can fill his shoes
That’s what it looks like.

Better hope team chemistry isn’t already screwed up. News flash it’s a delicate thing that can be easily ruined

Feels like post 2011

Ok now that is the most hyperbolic take and I'm also perturbed that DJJ could be out.

No, losing DJJ does not feel like post-2011.

Perhaps. This Marshall deal leaves them right at or just below the tax line. I doubt that's a coincidence.
Get green outta here for Klay. Then sign me spencer back and another vet a minimum.

Eh. Kinda does to me. The post-TDL core was actually pretty small - Luka, Kyrie, Lively, PJ, Gafford, and DJJ, with sprinklings of Maxi, Green, THJ, and Exum.

I will continue to hope Tobias Midris is a smokescreen and we somehow end up with Jerami Grant out of all this.

Luka / Exum
Kyrie / Hardy
Grant / Grimes
PJ / Marshall
Lively / Gafford

Would be an extremely solid 10-man rotation

Not sure why Portland - whose lack of interest in our assets is the direct roadblock to Grant - is all of the sudden going to change their minds.

What would be the repercussions of us getting under? Wouldn’t that allow us to go extra years over the aprons?

If this is a long term play to set us up strategically I’m all aboard
I miss Lindsey already

Mavs put all their hopes into 34 year old Klay Thompson who is personally being recruited by Lebron James

I have the Mavs at about ~174mil team roster currently after the Marshall+Grimes contracts added.

Tax line is 170,814,000

Mavs are quite over the line right now.

Edit: My bad I factored in an extra vet min contract, on top of a typo. Mavs roster salary is actually ~170 right now. Right at the tax line.

I actually tend to agree with a lot your takes over the past day or two, but your negativity is actually starting to depress me something awful, so I'm putting you on ignore until tomorrow.
