I will never not endorse a Thybulle trade

Who are we signing and trading for Thybulle? He's under contract.

Why are we predicating things on that idea? Has anyone aside from Grant Aseth made that connection? He’s insightful, but at the end of the day he is a small time Dallas guy, uber focused on Jones. Do we think giving the MLE to a non-spacer is likely to be the Lakers’ first major move after hiring JJ Redick, who talked for an hour at his introductory press conference about “generating more good threes?”
There might be a team angling to convince Jones to leave the Mavericks, but I would bet any amount of money I could get my hands on that the Lakers aren’t it.

If this were the old regime DJJ would be a lower priority than waiting for Klay's decision on taking all the available cap space the Mavs could offer.

Thompson stood out as the player with the worst plus/minus numbers on the team in any given role. Didn't work next to Curry/Draymond. Was even worse off the bench.
Not trying to be an asshole because it isn't really about you but I am so freakin done with the despite the numbers narrative. We have reached a point where the NBA/synergy is tracking everything. I can confirm my eyetest with his post defense numbers. Can look at the tracking numbers to confirm that he gets deflections or secures lose balls. Can look at his blow by %. Can look at his plus/minus impact.
There might be a case that one of those metrics is underrating Thompson's defensive abilities but when all of them paint the same picture and confirm the narrative that most Warriors related media outlets and my eyetest agree with I am inclined to believe that he isn't a good defender.
It's interesting that you mention his passing. From what I can tell his athletic decline hurt his decision making. He isn't able to attack close outs like he used to and the Warriors aren't running as much split action for him because teams aren't afraid of his ability to cut. Resulting in an even higher 3-point volume. More contested 3s.
What remains is the intangible part that you mentioned. His reputation. I think that no matter what happens Klay is always going to have a gravity that only a few select star players can match. No one is going to help off him. Even if he is only shooting 37-38% from 3 for the season. That's certainly a positive.
No worries. I don't take anything personally. The only thing I've noticed the athletic decline affect is his closeouts and drives on offense. On defense it's forcing him to slide more at an angle into help rather than laterally to cut the player off. He normally has enough length to make up for it with blocks on the back side.
All of that I said has a price though. I'm not getting into a bidding war for him. I put a price tag on it and don't go over that. He's not that player anymore.
Find me at Lakersball.com. I'm done with the Nico and the Mavs.

Grant Afseth also made sure to say afterwards that that tweet was 100% an opinion and he hadn't heard anything regarding that.
I do not think Lebron is sacrificing his paycheck for DJJ.

Dan, is it just the agency change that has you shook? I know you like to track that stuff, but I don’t think it’s necessarily indicative of a problem in this case.

Sure, and Jalen Brunson's going to meet with the Mavs, too.

with all those Klay rumours going around, I think almost everyone on this board can agree that Jerami Grant would be our top trade target, also a bit risky given his contract but as a player he would solve many of our issues, if not all. sorry to Klay but he's indeed just a plan B for both Dallas and Golden State. Nico might have made like a thousand calls to Portland's GM but apparently the blazers demand more than what we can afford, so we are gonna settle for plan B it seems like. but on the other hand Nico might just be using these rumors to bargain with the blazers imho.

Personally, I’d rather sign DJJ and stay with what we have in the hope that the price for Jerami Grant comes down by the trade deadline than sign Klay. But I can live with Klay and be happy depending on the contract.

I actually think it makes sense. Offense wasn’t their problem. Their 23rd ranked D was the issue. He’s a multi-positional defender who can take pressure off of James when they play together or replace his D when Lebron is off. JJ doesn’t buy the groceries.
Also if I were the agent being able to get Lebron to take a discount for my new guy is a pretty compelling argument to the next player I might want to want to flip to the dark side. Finally, is it a little worrisome to anyone else that nothing has leaked? I get that there might be a strategic advantage to not making an announcement. You know who can’t leak anything about signing DJJ? Everyone but us.

Yea, wouldn’t we have heard from one of the insiders that DJJ intends to sign with the Mavericks?

We have.
But, we also heard that Paul George to Golden State was a done deal.

agree, retaining DJJ should be our top priority of the summer, and we should not overpay for anyone. we're already a top 3 team in the league with good chemistry and a better financial situation than Denver and Boston. there is no reason to take a big gamble at the risk of messing up what has been working so well for us. that said, Jerami would still be a good option worth paying something. I think a package of maxi/green/hardy/Powell plus a first round pick if necessary would be the best offer from us. blazers on the other hand also need some time to estimate the market of Jerami imho.
