Trade & FA 2024-25:

Really? Ugh, not me. I see no value whatsoever in Shamet-to-Dallas for EITHER team. And more importantly, that limits DJJ to the TxMLE (or, more likely, he walks) which is a non-starter for me.

Deni going to the blazers for pick 14, Brogdon and 29 pick

Well don't you worry cause Deni is on his way to Portland for the measly price of 2 FRPs!

This means Jerami Grant is 100% getting moved right?

Another reminder that most of the time, the deals that actually happen don't get leaked out as talks beforehand.

If Portland trades Grant for a first and 2 2nds that basically means they got Deni for 1 first.

The Blazers are sending the second most favorable of their 2029 first-round picks and two second-round picks in the deal for Avdija, sources tell ESPN.

Wonder if this makes Grant move likely? Maybe salary relief and pick up a future first

The Washington Wizards are trading F Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers for Malcolm Brogdon and the 14th pick tonight and 2029 pick, sources tell ESPN.

But so many here said he wasn’t available?!

Gotta think Grant gets moved soon. Recoup half the draft capital you gave up for Deni.

Deni >>> Grant

Well done, Portland.

Probably less so now that Portland is under the tax.

The Wizards remain active in trade discussions centered around Kyle Kuzma as well.

Washington could attach Kuzma alongside Nos. 14 or 26 to move up even higher in the draft from their current slots.

Kuzma and Malcolm Brogdon are players who might still be on the move tonight.

Well done, Portland.

I won't say Deni >>> Grant. They're pretty dang close though all things considered. Grant has the higher ceiling and much lower floor.

Oddly, that does create a scenario in which Shamet-to-Dallas might be considered. That's a swap of THJ for Shamet (partially guaranteed), and then Shamet is SW'ed. Has to happen in July, so Shamet g'tee date has to be pushed back.

As we discussed elsewhere, that creates room to sign DJJ and someone else, perhaps a BAE sized player.

The THJ for Grimes idea does kinda the same thing, with the Mavs ending up with DJJ and a player (Grimes) on a BAE sized contract.

In both scenarios, the issue would be how interested DET, or WAS, is in having THJ -- would they pay for the privilege, simply take him, or demand compensation? Ideally both teams would want the deal, and compete a bit for it.

I think DET would be more motivated between the two given all their connections. And I think Grimes is a fantastic consolation prize. I never really thought DET would move him, but after Stein mentioned his name my eyes widened.

He just doesn't fit their timeline though.  Deni is more of a PF type though.  Although they have some shooting concerns.   They can move off Grant now and pick up a pick or two.  Maybe they can get a bigger return in a year, but there is a chance they could get much less too.

The Wizards are exploring every pathway to try to stockpile assets and, with three turns already in the first round at Nos. 2, 14 and 26, there is rising curiosity about their plans for Kyle Kuzma. Sacramento (No. 13) is known to be interested in the versatile Kuzma once again.

So is Washington just going to draft 5 rookies and call it a day?

They really don't need 13 now.   2025 picks would be more valuable.    three rookies in this draft class is enough.

Could we still be after Kuzma, because they got mentioned as interested in Hardaway as well? We were close to trading for him before the deadline and had a deal in place before Kuzma killed it because he thought we weren’t good enough at that point. And Hardaway was never the same afterwards, maybe because he knew we‘d send him to Washington. So maybe it’s either Kuzma or Grant we‘re after to get some much needed firepower at the forward position.
I cannot express my disappointment if we traded for Kuzma.

Yes I understand on paper he fills what we're looking for. But the dude actively trashed this franchise not just 3 months ago.
