Trade & FA 2024-25:
(06-24-2024, 03:54 PM)Jason Terry Wrote: Nba trade rumors just published their mavs offseason overview

Their plan is to trade THJ to Charlotte for Cody Martin ($8.1 million) . Use those savings to sign Jones Jr.

Martin's 25/26 contract is NG.   $8.1mm obviously isn't a trade match.  But, Charlotte has space.  So, we'd be asking them to eat up about $8mm of that space.  I'm not sure this costs much, if anything.  Charlotte needs O.  In fact, maybe they pay us something.

Martin's contract is small enough that you could keep him and get DJJ a starting number around $10mm-$11mm and still have a cushion.  Or, like we discussed regarding Shamet, you could stretch-waive his one guaranteed year and be able to afford a BAE player instead of keeping Martin.

I think it is interesting the way this one and the Shamet rumor work out financially.  It is splashier to talk about Grant and Avdija and Tobias and such.  But these kind of money saving deals get "Priority 1A and 1B" done.  Then you figure out any other opportunity as it presents itself.

With each passing day it’s becoming more and more likely that Houston will stay at pick 3 and select a prospect.

The Lakers remain uninterested in trading Austin Reaves for Dejounte Murray, per @sam_amick

“Murray, meanwhile, was a player that the Lakers could have had at the February trade deadline if they’d been willing to put Reaves into the deal. He’s a possibility now, as well, but league sources say the Lakers’ stance on Reaves remains the same.”

LeBron James and Anthony Davis reportedly want the Lakers to go ‘all-in’ on another elite player, per @sam_amick

“If the franchise cornerstones had their way, league sources say, the Lakers would prove their desire to win this week by going all-in for another elite player.”

Maybe he should have knocked down some shots. He was given opportunities. Good riddance.

Daniel Theis is receiving significant interest from overseas teams ahead of free agency.

Theis will be a potential center option for contending teams on the veteran’s minimum market.

If Theis doesn’t find a solid role, a return overseas is very much in play for the 32-year-old.

The rules have become extremely complicated. From my understanding since players aren’t being aggregated, Martin (or whomever in a swap like this) would be eligible to be traded again immediately? Or would he not be able to be aggregated with other players for X days?

Regardless, this type of deal makes sense if we don’t find the right deal initially. The only business that’s time sensitive is 1) re-signing Jones Jr and 2) dumping Hardaway

With the bad blood i don’t think Hardaway can go all summer without being traded

Green + Martin contract would be a much better trade package than one with THJ.

BREAKING: OG Anunoby is declining his player option and entering free agency, per @FredKatz.

Expected. But how funny would it be if OG just signed with the Mavs, didn't take a meeting with the Knicks, and no SnT.

One of many players that can probably earn a bigger contract with a good performance in the olympics.

I remember Thies basically forcing himself off of IND because he wanted an established role with minutes. And he got that with the Clippers until Miles Plumlee came back from injury.

I truly think he'd rather go to Detroit and play 30 minutes a night than play for a contender.

Written by Sam Amick, some interesting excerpts.

League sources say the 39-year-old has not given the Lakers any indication about what he will do..He wasn’t involved in the coaching search — never mind that it involved his podcast partner — and has made it clear that he’s in wait-and-see mode when it comes to the Lakers’ offseason business

As of Wednesday, the Lakers will be able to trade up to three first-round picks along with whatever players they choose in a trade. But are they willing to, especially when it comes to the prospect of trading a player like Austin Reaves or Rui Hachimura, who have long since become favorites within the Lakers ownership and front office walls? Therein lies the question that will likely dictate the mood going forward.

James’ looming free agency puts him front-and-center in the Lakers’ spotlight right now, and with good reason. League sources say the 39-year-old has not given the Lakers any indication about what he will do, even if the widely held expectation around the league is that he will either return on his player option or sign a new deal. He wasn’t involved in the coaching search — never mind that it involved his podcast partner — and has made it clear that he’s in wait-and-see mode when it comes to the Lakers’ offseason business and the part it might play in his decision. If he opts out, as so many expect, don’t be surprised if he takes his time in free agency from there.

As Lakers owner Jeanie Buss has always said about this partnership, James’ happiness is the key to it all. Yet while some have surmised that James might be content coasting in these final Lakers years, enjoying all the benefits of living in Los Angeles while continuing to make his incredible mark on the league’s history books, league sources say he desperately wants to win at the highest of levels again. What’s more, James’ unprecedented play at this stage means he remains open to the prospect of playing two, or even three, more seasons before retiring.

As messaging goes, they didn’t exactly make it sound like a significant upgrade to the roster was happening anytime soon — whether it’s Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell, Atlanta’s Dejounte Murray, Chicago’s Zach LaVine, Portland’s Jerami Grant, Charlotte’s Miles Bridges (who will be a free agent) or someone else of that ilk. Mitchell has long been seen as a premier target for the Lakers, but, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Cavaliers are optimistic that he’ll sign a $209 million extension soon. Murray, meanwhile, was a player that the Lakers could have had at the February trade deadline if they’d been willing to put Reaves into the deal. He’s a possibility now, as well, but league sources say the Lakers’ stance on Reaves remains the same.

If this is true, the Mavs FO should ask about Coby White. A THJ + something swap for Coby would be awesome.

Nah, it's more that in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, maybe he should have learned to play effective defense, quit shot-hunting/ruining fast breaks, and pass the damn ball. That's why what happened this regular season and postseason happened.

Ouch...that is a lot of money.  I would have been willing to explore a trade up for Bronny if Lebron signed a one year contract with player option for year two.  If he is signing a 3 year contract I would not consider Bronny any longer.
