Trade & FA 2024-25:

Even as a Mavs fan, I don’t want to see Steph toil away with no help like Dirk did in his later years.

See, PG is a better basketball fit than Kyrie, but the main reason why I wouldn't want him anywhere near the Mavs is character. Cf. the off-court stuff/the beef with Seth Curry. Don't want to have to root for that guy, at all. I'd root for Miles Bridges quicker, tbh.

I feel similarly, but doubt any of these front offices are in a hurry to do the Warriors any favors. I think these people have waited for the chance to stick it to them for years (hence the new rules, to some extent).

What off court problems does Paul George have?

He knocked up a stripper and then ended up marrying her. He always comes across as one of the nicest guys in the league.

He also has a pretty good podcast.

Crazier things have happened, but this one would have a lot of moving parts. It would have to be in July, and a 3-team trade, off-loading salary to a 3rd team, since GS and LAC are both 100% match teams.

Most proposed ideas floating out there aren't CBA-legal.

SH, are you meaning to unpin this thread, or are you doing it by accident?

Am I right to assume you'd only guarantee enough of Shamet's salary to be within $7.5mm of THJ's number?  So, $16.193mm minus $7.5mm = $8.693mm.  If you don't guarantee the full amount, you might as well S/W what is left.  The S/W amount is $2.898mm per year on the books.  If you do that, I show about $15.7mm of room under the apron to fund a cushion, DJJ at some number up to $12.9mm and potentially fund some or part of the BAE.

We've talked about the #26 for 2025 swap, but the better route might be to keep your pick and use part of the MLE on DJJ and the BAE on someone better than what you'd get at that point in the draft.  At the TDL, you still have Green/Maxi and two picks that you can use to go 'medium game hunting'.

I've added a permanently stickied thread for all the new rules and triggers for the CBA. Let me know what you guys think or if it should be deleted

The CBA has become even more complex and extensive with the new rules, as we all know, so I suspect there will be more and more info added as time goes along.

If you add to it or make changes, would you please use a separate post?

1 Yes, there's no reason to guarantee more of Shamet contract than necessary (and no sooner than necessary) no matter what you intend to do later. I have the same numbers as you.
2 Likely a SW Shamet follows, but I'd have explored if a different team wants to swap their useless player at a lower salary for Shamet at 11M, so I can SW a smaller salary.
3 I show a bit more room (16.29M) after that move, with 12 players (one of which is Lawson).
....Not sure how that would get used. The easy allocation is a full MLE (12.9), a minimum (2.1), and a cushion (1.3) that might be used at times for short-term NG deals into the 15th slot.
....But I think DJJ's limited offense makes him a lower value than full MLE. So how do you try to negotiate  with him? I think I'd offer DJJ a 3+1 (TO) deal in that sort of setup, which is something like DJJ 10.5, BAE 4.7, cushion 1.1. DJJ money in that offer is 4 yrs 47M (with 34M guaranteed).
4 Obviously such a deal re Shamet hinges on how THJ is valued (or not) from team to team. Maybe Mavs can do better, and maybe some team will see him as a plus.

Yeah absolutely I can make a separate thread in the future. I've used the "announcement" feature so it's out of the way, but there's nothing stopping me from making a proper stickied "thread" that anyone can comment on if that's what everyone wants.

Just wanted something we can all quickly reference as we're making our fake treads at this time!

The Warriors have exhibited no desire to part with Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis, per @MontePooleNBCS

“Getting a veteran impact player almost certainly would require moving Jonathan Kuminga, who projects to have the highest upside of Golden State’s under-25 players.
The Warriors have exhibited no desire to part with Kuminga, and their same intent has been applied to Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis.”

Got it. Thanks.

BTW, on what's already there, you might want to amend the part about a team being penalized for being below Min Team Salary on day 1 of regular season - in that case, it's not just a cap hold being charged. They actually get fined the difference at that day, and also forfeit any share in the tax dollars collected. Suffice to say, all 30 teams will be sure to spend to be above that line.
