Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms
I love how the pendulum has swung so far on the other side that if Lively has a bad game we're going to be non stop doom and gloom.

I was a big detractor of Lively. I'm now an optimist and think there is a place for him in the league. But I think it'll be unfair to continue to expect him to play like he did against San Antonio. If he did then I eat the most massive of crow and declare the Mavs center problems are solved. But I don't think we're there yet.

I just want him to continue to get 30 minutes a night (or until he fouls out)
Gonna be some ups, gonna be some downs but if he's given that freedom then I envision us seeing that Lively from game 1 a whole bunch in his second season and beyond

Don't worry - our center problems aren't solved regardless, because even if he plays 81 more games like that plus playoffs, he can't play 48 mpg, and there's no one else right now.

I'd like to hope that Holmes is just in a temporary doghouse right now instead of cooked to a crisp, but we'll see. The game chat will feature plenty of Dwight Powell head-banging.

I for one will post "trade the bum".

Speaking of Holmes…. I have yet to hear anything good, bad, or neutral about him from anyone in the Mavs’ organization. I saw some puff piece early in preseason about how he was refocused and ready to contribute. The only thing apparent to me is that he’s on the far end of the bench. As slow as Maxi looked on D Wednesday, I’m ready to give anyone a shot at filling some minutes at the 5…..

Pretty sure it will take a few games where some people are missing due to injury, rest, b2bs etc, until more is known about the bench guys. Luka, Kyrie, Maxi etc aren't gonna be playing 82 games. Should know a lot more around the TDL for sure.

More Powell hate.  He was overexposed starting, but he is more than adequate coming off the bench.  If this is who Lively is, center will be very low on our list of problems.

So the Bulls almost have to blow it up right? Between the players only meeting after the first game and now this wasted 50 piece by Lavine and getting blown out, the Bulls are done right?

Sure, but the national narrative has been that they were there already, even before last year. They keep doubling down.

I agree they are up for a rebuild. DeRozan has not resigned and can walk in the summer, so they will probably be forced to sell him at TDL at the latest. Once this "domino" falls, it will make little sense to continue the ride and overall sale might happen.

This FO was not brought in to do a rebuild. So I would assume at least some FO changes happen before they do the inevitable. They built a nice team, but Lonzo injury really hampered their plans.

The Legends drafted Jack White so he'll be playing for the Mavericks' G-league affiliate.  There is some talent there.  Very athletic wing who rebounds and plays defense.  He has been a below-average shooter in college and internationally but hit 41% last year in limited G-league games last season.   He also averaged almost 10 rebounds per game last year in G-league.  He was the Thunder's final cut on their roster.  They cut Usman Garuba and traded Jeremiah Robinson Earl before they cut Jack White.  The Thunder roster is stocked with talent and I am fine with taking their leftovers.

He's already 26 years but if the 3-point shot can improve, there's a poor-man's Josh Hart in there.  I like how the Mavs are filling the Legends with athletic wings who have the potential to become decent NBA role players.  I think there's a good chance Jack White earns a two-way contract shortly.  Also, he's Australian.  The Mavs seem to like Australians.  Small but smart move.

I’ve been thinking about DeRozan.  He’s an obvious TDL trade candidate because of the UFA status this summer playing for a team going nowhere.  That is the kind of move Dallas has made in the past.  The interesting thing is Dallas and Chicago can both stay below the tax if the deal is THJ/Holmes or THJ/Maxi.  Neither is ideal for Chicago since they aren’t expiring.  The cost of such a trade is usually a protected first, but our first available pick is fairly distant.

Even if Chicago was willing to do that and we made the best offer, is DeRozan really what we need?  He’d certainly add to our scoring punch, but we seem quite capable of scoring right now.  He doesn’t shoot 3’s well.  But, my main concern is it takes a special kind of star to play with Luka.  Capable in the moments said star is needed, but ego-less in those moments Luka wants to dominate.  Irving appears to be pretty good at this, but what does that dynamic look like if we add a third score-first type?  I think adding a bigger name will be tricky not only from an asset standpoint, but from a fit standpoint.

I would think he would automatically become the 3rd option on offense. He's probably one of the best mid-rangers in the game and still gets to the FT line a ton. That's a skill the Mavs could use I would think.

Imho, DeRozan is probably the opposite of what Luka/Kyrie Mavs need. The potential target should imho be either one of expiring Toronto wings, although Anunoby could probably fit in nicer than Siakam.

If Chicago blows it up, the interesting name to watch could be Caruso.

Only one player on the Bulls roster that I would want on the Mavs. Caruso. Perfect low usage glue guy for any contender. Just don't see a realistic trade package that doesn't include the 27 1st.

If Exum doesn't exactly work out, Caruso is perfect for this team.  Probably platooning with Green for 6th man.  Huge THJ/Exum upgrade.

Holmes/Hardy or Holmes/O-Max for Caruso/Craig? Or THJ/O-Max/2nds for DFS/O'Neale?

Is this (Holmes/Hardy/O-Max/'27 1st) even enough to compete for Anunoby?

we clearly need to upgrade our perimeter/on-ball defense, since only Williams is doing a good job (Green/Kleber/DJJ underperforming and the rest of the squad doesn't have the tools).
We just paid a whole lot of money to a guy that went 9-29 (31%) on FG and 3-20 (15%) 3-pt% in both our win or go home elimination games last couple of playoffs. SMH

I'm 100% for this. I love Caruso. He's a winning player. As to packages I'm also coming up short on a realistic deal that doesn't involve the '27 first but I'm not sure Caruso alone is worth that given his injury history and general offensive production.

So I'm leaning more towards an overpay for Lavine+Caruso to make it worth.

Lavine+Caruso+Drummond for THJ+Maxi+Holmes+Hardy+Morris+2027 1st and 2031 first.

Saves the Bulls 10 mil this year and they get 2 firsts for Lavine.

Long shot but who knows?

Caruso/Drummond for Hardy/Holmes+3 SRP works financially....maybe the FRP 27 should be included and receive an SRP?.. I think if we are willing to give up an FRP we could get DFS back.... So what would you prefer... Caruso/Dru or DFS..?

Adding Caruso to a team that already has a minutes crunch at the SG spot is not great. THJ needs to be outgoing to bring in another SG. I also don’t believe for a second that Kidd would play Drummond over Powell, long term.
