Anyone that’s a Mavs fan and wants them to be good this season has zero reason to complain.
I’m skeptical that will be the cost, because anything that’s too good to be true…usually is.
But getting Grant Williams and Capela for Reggie, THJ, McGee and a ‘30 FRP swap is GM of the year stuff!
...and with all that, I still want the young wing that ATL will want to move, too.
With Siakam incoming, the Hawks would have less minutes to split, not more. And assuming THJ is in the mix for someone, that's another veteran mouth somebody will feed, leaving no space for some kid. I really think it could be easier than we realize, with a good negotiator who is smartly assessing the landscape. Can't be shy.
And with that, I will shut up on this, because I know you guys think I am being too aggressive, and I don't want to belabor my point. But I really think there's an extra opportunity here to extract more value.

THJ and the 2nds for Capela is fair and seems a good deal considering the positions the other two teams are in.
If we could swap Mcgee (to Atlanta) for OPJ (to Dallas) this would be a home run
Mavs:
Capela
OPJ
Hawks:
Siakam
Mcgee
Raptors:
Hunter
THJ
Griffin
ATL unprotected FRP
ATL pick swap
DAL 2nds
Looks balanced for all the teams

Both of these teams i think feel pressure. I like how Nico is identifying these situations and putting us in the spot to get a good deal

Absolutely right. Important to remember that in this, specific case, the onus is on ATL to avoid looking cheap by replacing Collins and TOR to get something for Siakim before getting stuck in an ugly negotiation and possibly losing him for nothing.

It seems to me that Capela would be a Mav already if it weren't Atlanta being the team who needs to budge here. Apparently, "Throw in Hardy, Green, and/or a first or no deal." That's my skepticism on your overall point.

I doubt it.
The time to negotiate with the Mavs on Capela was draft night. The Mavs didn’t give in then (thank goodness).
I think the holdup here is probably related to masai trying to get as much value as possible out of Siakim. I’m sure the Mavs were pretty upfront about their interest in this small part in the deal. Siakim and Hunter are the principals.
Maybe the Mavs are throwing in a first, maybe they’re not. But whatever the case, my guess is that their part is done and dusted. The negotiation is taking place between ATL and TOR.

From a diff angle, where a team wants to move off of what they have and get yours, and has extra projects laying around (clogging up salary and not having a good path for getting minutes), "fair" might look different, if you have the self-confidence to ask.
I work in a business where the "price" can often be negotiable, and I am regularly reminded that asking for what you prefer to get is often all it takes. There is no "fair price scale" in a world where values and needs can change daily. Like the NBA.
Don't get me wrong, I want to live in the world where ATL sees the angle of the Mavs needing to be "paid" for taking on Capela. I just think the amount of angles of that actually happening are next to zero.
Of course the Mavs should play the negotiation exactly how you're describing to extract maximal value, but I to expect anything more than a starting center (which already would be a boon) is wishful thinking.
But we'll see. Lets hope the Hawks and Mavs see it as you describe and we are walking away with a great young guy in addition to a center.

I think the 27th first is the most likely way the Mavs could get Capella. While he would definitely make us better now, I am not sure the 27th first is worth it.
Without the first, I think you need to do a lot of mental gymnastics to have Capella wind up here. Sure it is possible, but I don't think it is likely. It would take Atlanta to give up more assets than they want for Siakem, as Toronto wouldn't consider Capella or THJ as prime assets. It would also take Toronto thinking a 20 million a year center who is 30 is not valuable in the market and a 16-17 million shooting guard could help their team better or be a better asset. That may be a stretch. But we will see.
I saw Holmes (with a new haircut) is in Vegas. Hopefully we get a chance to work him out and get a better feel for his current talents. It would be tough for any scout to know what we have with him with his lack of playing time last year.

My son has the weirdest idea. He thinks we are trying to deal with Toronto directly.
Siakam for Hardy/Green/THJ/McGee/2027 1st.

Working with the premise on Capela/ATL deal:
1- Capela makes too much to be a backup and acquiring team must view him as a clear starter
2- Acquiring team must be able to take on a few million net in this trade (both other teams want less $ back)
3- Acquiring team must send out a non-center contract (Toronto doesn’t want a big)
All these teams have better situations and make no sense: BOS, MIL, PHI, CLE, BKN, TOR, MIA, CHI, iND, ORL, DET, DEN, SAC, MIN, OKC, UTA
WAS and POR entering rebuild and stripping it down. CHA has big problems next offseason with the QO guys. LAL doesn’t have the matching piece or ability to take on more. MEM and GSW have already made moves and would have a hard time pulling this off. LAC is focused on Harden. NOP and PHX are in a bad place financially and can’t make it happen
HOU - past ties
SAS - they want Wemby at the 4
NYK - maybe they see this as an upgrade?
DAL
That’s about it. You’ve got to think his agent is trying to get him to Dallas. It makes far more sense for him than any situation in the league

I don't think anyone in the nba is going to give up a first for Capela. I just don't understand why that keeps being brought up.

If there was anyway to not include Hardy, I would love this. I think Hardy has star potential. He's going to be incredibly good in the future.
Also no way the Mavs give up a 1st for Capela.

If Toronto made this move i think they would then move Trent in a trade for a point guard. Trent is Klutch and looking to get paid big. THJ is objectively a decent replacement compared to the commitment to Trent. Toronto would have plenty of wing depth to add and could create a nice package for someone.

Siakam for Hardy/Green/THJ/McGee/2027 1st.
If Siakam value is really so low as discussed on some boards, I would definitely jump on it. True, Siakam is 30. True, he wants max deal and might even want to wait till FA to sign it. But, he is a difference maker for this team. Despite Kyrie and Luka, I think Mavs can afford another max salary.
Word on the boards is (no idea how reliable that is), that Toronto wants to stay competitive and it is not interested in picks for Siakam. They want win now players and young players. Here is the Hunter interest and they want more young guys. Reading the tea leaves, I would say that Mavs perhaps started to prepare the fan base, that young guys could be traded (link below).
Looking at concrete idea and assuming Toronto likes Hardy, Green enough to make the deal, I would do it. Siakam lifts the floor of this team extremely. Hardy may become good, but will take time. Green is probably the only player that could be point of attack defender on this team, so this is a hole they would need to address. Although (based on Dameris), Mavs would prefer Thybulle to Green. So, might be they are not really valuing him very high. Siakam could play some of the minutes as a center, but would also push GW to SF/SG for at least some time.
Btw, is it just me, or is Twitter out again?

Mavericks Rumors: Josh Green, Jaden Hardy Considered 'Very Attractive Trade Pieces' | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report This got me thinking:
Atl in Kleber, Wood ($9-11M starting), 3 SRPs
Tor in Hardy, Green, McGee, THJ, 28 pick swap
Dal in Siakam, Capela
Kyrie/Luka/GWill/Siakam/Capela
Exum/Curry/vet min/OMax/Holmes
Would need lots of vet min salary after the trade, but we would have an amazing starting 5. No real POA defender, but the collapse and rim protection would be amazing.

Absolutely agree. Hardy should be near untouchable imo. There's not many players I would want to give him up for and Siakam isn't one of them. I would give Hardy up for Dame for example. That's what I think of Hardy's potential. I'm not giving him up for an All Star. They would have to be a mega superstar to even consider it. Green, I'm fine with.
