Summer League may tell us more about Lively, but I think Holmes starts over Powell for sure. That's a message you have to send Holmes if he's going to be reclaimed.
Want to make a sig bet? I think it could be any of the three, but I feel like Powell is the likeliest, maybe not on opening night, but before long, just like last year.
I wouldn’t be shocked if they give Lively a shot right out of the gate. I really wouldn’t.
The more I think about the Holmes thing, the more I doubt he’ll make much of an impact here at all.

Awesome deal for Atlanta, imho. Great player on a decently cost controlled contract for what he can provide

Question...
Which deals are official at the moment?
Let's say that Curry has not officially signed or the Boston trade has not been finalized, Dallas would still have a bit of space to do a quick S&T of Wood for $9 million to start in order to send Wood and McGee for Valenciunas and Naji Marshall OR Trey Murphy III; TM3 would require a simultaneous dump of THJ for less coming back...

The only thing I disagree with is starting the season with Powell in front of Holmes. You simply cannot do that considering what needs to happen for this team. You're now paying Holmes to be better than Powell, and Holmes needs to be encouraged to do just that.
Lively may actually start, but Holmes has to take more minutes than Powell if this team is going to be productive. We need his rebounding with a small lineup elsewhere.

Tough for me to imagine a world where at the end of last season the General Manager comes out and tells the media his #1 priority is to address defense and rebounding and then they start Dwight freakin Powell. Maybe it’ll happen but I think the GM would give himself a bad grade if it does.
I’ll take a sig bet or something else friendly. I think I have signatures turned off?

Yeah, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. You would have a point if the Mavs had negotiated Holmes’ contract, but they didn’t. It was simply a pill they had to swallow in order to get their hands on Omax. I hope they get something from Holmes - a lot, ideally. But, they could literally tell him not to report and pay him to stay home and this team would still be better off than it was at this time last season.

Cool, let’s wait and see what happens between now and camp, and we’ll readdress. That will give us time to think of something.

I’m not saying Maxi should/will start at the 5. Just that he’ll get minutes there and placed him there for illustration purposes. But this is kind of how I see the minutes/rotation with the current roster. I tried to mimic last years MPG totals. The biggest difference is THJ/Hardy. Should some play more or less? Are the Mavs 12 players deep, worthy of regular season minutes?
Rotation:
Luka 28 | Curry 8 | Hardy 12
Irving 36 | Hardy 12
Green 26 | THJ 14 | Luka 8
GWill 26 | Maxi 8 | Omax 14
Maxi 12 | Holmes 14 | Lively 14 | DP 8
DNP: Exum, McGee
Luka 36
Irving 36
Green 26
GWill 26
Maxi 20
Hardy 24
THJ 14
Holmes 14
Lively 14
Omax 14
Curry 8
DP 8

You have a point about the contracts, but I think the Mavs are desperate for some new blood at center, and some of the media seem to be confident that Holmes will be given every opportunity.
I will literally cry if Powell starts over any other healthy center.

I think there might be a way to get that one done. Only…is there even still time to make RFA offers?

Btw, I won’t tip anyone else if I’m right about this, but are a couple of the letters in your tag more important than the others?

Saw Tavares mentioned on Reddit. The trailblazers expressed interest in him prior to Dame trade. I assume his game wouldn’t translate to the nba but he is the best defensive player in Europe and former Luka teammate.

I hope they don't do what they did last season.
It won't be Powell starting at the start of the season but Kidd will look for any excuse to get him starting at some point. If we don't add someone it'll probably be Holmes at the beginning of the season like it was JaVale McGee starting at the beginning of the season last year. Hopefully Holmes doesn't do that badly.
Lively will be the Christian Wood in this scenario, he'll establish himself as the most talented one but Kidd will jerk him around at any hiccup, not put him in the best situations to succeed, and be quick to put Powell out there.
I'm more concerned about our head coach than our roster at this point.

blazers are rebuilding they match the bid for thybulle only to get some draft capitals back through sign and trade. 2 second rounders seem the fair price for one of the best wing defenders IMHO.

Yes, for a bit. Probably best for him to stay overseas where he knows he can be really good. I just found it interested the Portland was interested. If you remember, Mike Schmitz is over there now and was always overseas watching prospects before joining the Blazers

They can't trade him for a year.

Since Thybulle was stolen maybe the Mavs could get another defensive-minded wing like this? I'm not sure what the Clippers really intend to do, but they've still got a massive tax bill and Ty Lue doesn't play Roco much anyway.
Mavs: Mcgee + 2nd for Covington
Wiz: Absorbs Mcgee for 2 2nds
Clips: Covington + 2nd for TPE

Kidd was not dying to put Powell in the starting lineup. McGee was absolutely awful and Powell hardly got a minute in those first couple of weeks. When he finally relented and put Powell in the starting lineup (there were not a lot of options) the on court product was significantly better and the team started winning. If Holmes shows anything in training camp its very likely they will give him the start to begin with (assuming we don't upgrade).
Wood and Lively are completely different situations. I know a lot of folks like to blame Kidd regarding how Wood was handled, but there is probably a reason he has changed teams almost every season.

I got an idea... Hear me out!
Lets find a buy low prospect who is coming off an injury... but to get him to Dallas we agree to pay him what room we have under the apron, even if that room is split with another player. Then when we get stiffed we end up giving ALL that room to the one player.
Wes Matthews looking at you!
and thank you Nico & Co!
