I think its almost 100% that Wood and Dallas are over.
But looking at how the roster is shaping up, he is exactly what this team needs right now. 6'10 versatile scoring forward. Yes his defense is atrocious, and i wish he'd rebound more. You put Wood in the starting lineup with Luka, Kyrie, Green, and Holmes/Maxi. Not worst starting 5 (maybe worst defensively).

With Lively and 2 more stud defensive bigs, you should be able to scheme around his defensive woes. I would use him how Michael Porter Jr is used in the Nugs defense.

Wood hates Kidd. Kidd hates Wood. Wood would probably take less to go just about anywhere else and other teams would almost assuredly pay him what the Mavs would be willing to offer. Wood feels like a Wizard to me.

We don't currently have a roster thread, so I'll ask a question here...
Is this adios to Powell? Or does last night's activity just take away any real leverage for anything more than a vet minimum contract? I know he's "family" but paying him significantly (or at all) is surely part of the the scenario during FA over the next few weeks. I'm OK keeping him at the minimum as an EOB insurance policy.

Other teams don't seem to be interested in him either though based on recent trade markets. Feels like there's something else that NBA execs are seeing that's preventing him from sticking around. Hoping we can S&T him somewhere, but just seems like he's not a player many (any?) teams want.

Basically in an onball only role because his team defense is beyond bad (when the Nuggets defense collapsed or gave up an open look more often than not he messed up a rotation or switch). Wood has been at his best when he is allowed to stay close to the rim. Has been really bad when teams asked him to step out on the perimeter. I guess bad team defense is a similarity but I don´t think you can hide Wood on one of the opposing wings/forwards. Not to mention that this should be Luka´s role on defense. If you have Luka and a center on the floor the other guys need be able to move their feet on defense. But as others stated. I don´t think it is even worth the discussion. Wood is gone.

Looking at our roster, this team needs Wood a hell of a lot more than it needs Kidd. I would put Kidd on a performance plan, making the no 2 objective to make nice and make Wood work.

With Wood its all attitude, chemistry, personality, etc., etc.
Kidd hates Wood. And i'm sure Wood hates him. I dont think he and Luka like each other very much either. Wood is gone. Kidd and staff completely mismanaged him last year. Forcing him to earn a starting spot, only to promise his spot to Javale Freaking McGee. Then Wood slides into the spot due to injuries and puts up his best numbers. Only to be sent back to the bench and minutes dropped. None of this takes away from the fact that he's talented. His skills fit nicely on this team. I wish it would have worked out.

Maxi is our only switching defender, but his rebounding is terrible, not to mention his availability. I think you're underestimating how good of a box-out guy/rebounder Holmes is, and also forgetting how poor of a team rebounder Wood was. Just that change alone should radically help with rebounding. https://twitter.com/thenbacentral/status...68161?s=46&t=Fmdr94oXagcEyy75KJqaFg Former NBA executive believes Warriors are ‘sweating’ at idea of Draymond Green joining Kings: https://t.co/MowE5dSVnf

There is some sentiment about moving THJ next. If you think back to the days leading up to the draft, expiring and NG Bullock seems the more likely outgoing piece. We can argue about the relative merits of the two players on our roster, but it is pretty clear to me that salary dumpers will probably prefer Bullock.

I think that's Kidd's hate spewing becoming fan's opinions more than anything. Wood's # of contested # of 3's (1.9), 3ptA (3.5),and his 3ptDfg% (35.6) are both above average for a Forward. It's much better than MPJ's 1.4, 3.1, and 37.2 in fewer minutes. I'm not saying he's Draymond Green, but he should be used on the perimeter more like MPJ. Not close. If you want to use Holmes as of 3 seasons ago, I don't do the Delorean thing. Wood last year ranked on the Mavs: *defensive rebounds - 2nd (to Luka) *defensive rebound rate - 1st *box-outs resulting in team rebounds -- 2nd (to Maxi) |
