2023 DRAFT: Mavs take Lively, OMP, sign Mike Miles to 2-way, sign Jordan Walker

I'll say this: the Mavs have become a sort of low-key good drafting team. They have won some cautions benefit of the doubt from me with their scouting department since Finley came on board.

Luka...Brunson...Green...Hardy.

Not bad.

And yet they also drafted:

Lively and Grant Williams would be a very "we needed a C and PF and that's all we could get with our assets" offseason.

That team is a 1st round exit.

Grant will always be associated with Jimmy Buckets punking him and the Celtics in my mind, forever more.

I'm sure. You're not getting an all-star with every pick, but he's already proven he's more than (insert the name of literally anyone drafted during the dirk era other than Josh Howard or Devin Harris here).

Luka/Brunson was Donnie/Carlisle - ready made picks.
Green was just a FO mess.
Hardy + Lively are Nico.

The only common denominator is Cuban.  He's the true genius.

Yea

He fits here but his entire season soured me on him.  Comes across as a clown with irrational confidence.  Jae Crowder or Dillon Brooks type. Remember when he mouthed im gonna make both free throws and then bricked both.

Relative to other players available when Josh was drafted and his wild inconstancies.  I know KG recently said he really likes the way Josh plays defense, but he's just far too passive on the offensive.  Wish he had a little bit of alpha in him.

I'm only sliiiiightly trying to pull your leg. I largely agree with you. Their drafting since 2018 has been pretty stellar. Heck even DSJ wasn't that bad of a pick given the context it was made in.

But I do not like this Lively pick. I hope I eat crow but I just don't see it. But I was all in with Cam. He has that talent.

Ok, sure. But that's nitpicky in the framework of this topic, imho. 

He IS a usable NBA player who WILL be sought after going into his second contract. Highly sought after. That isn't a "blown off" pick. That's a successful pick.
