Whenever I talk trade ideas, it's ALWAYS with a view towards matching what the other team is thought to want, and weighing the money impact. I certainly try NOT to offer ideas that conflict with what teams are looking for.
In TOR's case, their speculated motivation is to get BETTER players -- ie, add a STAR at a position of need -- rather than trade down in talent for draft picks. That's the exact opposite of this idea, where they give up OG and get back much lesser talent.
And from the Mavs end, there's nothing to indicate Cuban would consider paying 75M in tax. Such a payroll just doesn't fit who he has become.
BTW - those deals you cite, they were situations where the Mavs took on players the other team no longer really wanted, or were eager to move. Maybe that would be true re Hayward and Rozier (although, maybe not), but OG isn't such a player Why do you ignore all the reasons cited for the OG trade? On top of that ignore that Rozier or SD on top of Maxi IS what I said I saw Tor fans looking to trade for so Fred can be the SG instead of the PG? Trading a good for them (but not great) OG for what is possibly a player of need (a PG) and adding in Maxi to shore up their big rotation (they are very high on Achiewa) IS possibly giving them what they want. Also, THE TOR EXAMPLE IS JUST THAT, AN EXAMPLE. I can't help that you don't see all the trades that are happening around the league, and what isn't available today, isn't an indicator of what is available tomorrow. Feelings change, players make demands, seemingly Tor took care of OG's issue, but for how long?

"Why do you ignore all the reasons cited for the OG trade?" .... I think his availability is being GREATLY overstated. That's the main one that I think matters more than the rest.

I think Ussery is really good at negotiating with players and getting them calmed down, and he's also good at sticking to his guns and not caving. If there is a boiling point with OG, it would probably take the threat of sitting out before Ussery caves to the trade demands. We have no clue where that boiling point is, and OG himself might not know (or even have one). There is smoke there though. As far as "availability"? In Ussery's mind he probably isn't available right now, how long will that be the case? The trade isn't proposed for right now, and it was only an example of the type of trade I would love to see.

Players to target:
SGA
Dame
Siakim
OG
Jaylen Brown
Draymond
Unavailable to us:
Lebron
Durant
Players we should avoid:
KAT
AD
Beal
Kyrie
Van vleet
Ayton
I’m not saying all of these guys will be available this summer, but a few of them will. This is the level of player we need to save our picks for. If we add a guy like this to our core of Luka/DFS/Wood/Maxi/Bullock/Dinwiddie……. That seems like a contender. Moving Hardaway we should look for a contract that’s expiring next season for matching over the summer

Let's go back to the trade idea that was proposed, and that I was addressing. That's a trade with CHA for Hayward-Rozier.
While I'm not sure CHA even wants to move those guys, to me there's an even bigger issue, which creates a dead end. That's the one about what such a trade does to Cuban's checkbook. That $75M hurdle is what imo makes all the back-and-forth of its merits and any theoretical off-shoots pointless.

Have to agree with @"F Gump". For me this summer erased all remaining hope that Cuban is willing to go deep into the tax.

Happened to have NBA tv for free for a couple weeks I guess. Simons has hit like 6 threes in the last 5 minutes.

Simons is hotter than fish grease. 22pts in the 3rd, 7-10 from 3.

Portland going 4-0 to start the season would be a nice surprise.

Portland has a good team. Dame is healthy and the pieces fit now. Health is key especially for Nurkic.

Is it? I know that many on this board didn´t like their chances but I think last season was mostly about Lillard´s injury. Looking at their roster the supporting cast might be better than Luka´s. Nurkic is one of the better old school bigs in the game. Grant was the rising two-way wing player before he decided to chuck away in Detroit and apparently remembered how to play defense. Simmons emerged as a McCollum replaced and allowed them to trade CJ. Hart is another solid wing and at some point GPII will return.
I did not like their bench unit but so far the youngsters are performing better than expected. Especially Sharpe. Looks like the player the Mavs hoped to get when they picked Hardy.
Standings are all over the place right now. Jazz and Spurs are winning. Lakers might be the worst team in the league. Nets, Heat and 76ers are struggling. As of now I have no clue where the Mavs rank in all of this.

Good post. The season is fluid. The standings will even out after a few months. Utah, and SA don't appear to be tanking yet. But I expect that to change as the season wears on. There are a lot of very good teams in both conferences now. Not one-sided as it has been. Sharpe is on a whole nother level than Hardy. Bigger and more athletic.

I mostly meant it as being happy for Dame. I'm a huge fan of his and I hope is loyalty pays off. And maybe they are better than just a good team?

I am curious if it is sustainable. Their BENCH won them the first three games really with crazy good D.
But I totally agree on Nurkic, one of the best bigs in the league. Huge positive impact when healthy and playing.

That's to be determined. I just think some of the moves they've made were solid. Simons is the real deal. Getting Grant, Payton II, Josh Hart is a swiss army knife, and that kid Sharpe looks intriguing. And they seem to like playing for Billups who gives them freedom as long as they play defense, like what Kidd is doing for the Mavs.

Klay Thompson is not the same player which is sad. He shot 1-8 and 0-5 from 3 for 2 pts. He was the best two way guard in the NBA at one time.

The Achilles injury is just the worst. The KDs and Wilkins are the exception and not the rule.
