Wow....I am not the biggest Grant fan but I expected a bigger haul than this. Both the Wood and Grant deals brought back less returns. I wonder if Detroit has their mind set on someone. Do they go max for Ayton? I think PHX will match, I think. Do they go Anfernee Simons? I will be interested to see what their plans are.

Detroit looks like a pretty good landing spot for THJ after they strike out on their F.A. targets

Detroit wanted a deal before draft night.... badly. They freed up 43 million in cap space for Free Agency in the process... so they are going balls out this year.

...or Brunson, if they don't strike out.

Let's see...Milwaukee's pick in 2025. How bad will they be in three years? Giannis will still be there, so middle-of-the-pack at worst. All their other contracts will have expired by then, so it will be up to the front office to re-stock or re-sign. But even if they do a Meh job, Giannis will make them relevant for a long time.
So maybe pick #15 at the highest?
A pretty small price to pay. Apparently, Detroit covets free agent(s) highly enough to basically dump him for cap space.

Am I the only one who thinks Ayton is a "buyer beware" at a huge pricetag? He should have punished the Mavs frontcourt, but was very meh.

I think lots of folks think that but he's objectively a hell of a talent too.

We won't be able to grade the Detroit portion until after FA imo.
For all the rumors there are with Ayton, I just can't imagine Phoenix doesn't match any RFA offer. It may hurt a little, but they can't get nothing back. That owner is terrible but that team would be done and it would just give the fans a big F U. I don't know what I would want back in a sign and trade with Detroit. So I would just match and figure the rest out later. If that is Detroit's plan, than that is pretty risky.
I would assume this eats up much of Portland's room right? So they bring back Hart, resign Nurkic and use the 7th pick on a prospect. Does someone make an offer at Simons? If Dame is healthy, you need consider them a playoff contender.

Oh, BTW, this is the last year they have to pay Larry Sanders:

Prime Joe Johnson says otherwise. Robert Sarver is the worst owner in sports and it's honestly not even that close. I have zero doubt in his ability to lose Ayton for nothing.

If the Pistons want Ayton they don´t have minutes for Olynyk and/or Stewart. Get on the phone Nico.

No doubt about his talent. After 7 games against Phoenix, I just don't he greatly affects the game.

Hate seeing Grant go that cheaply. I suppose there was no easy way to open up that much cap space for Detroit.

Take away his lack of consistency and the questions surrounding if he was helped or hurt by playing alongside CP3/Booker (my take: Helped by CP3 running plays for him but hurt by not getting enough opportunity), his skillset and the modern NBA mean I'd never pay anywhere near a max contract for him. Give me 60% of what he offers on a budget contract instead.

I have never seen the highly positive attraction to Grant. Glad he isn't a Mav. How is Harrison Barnes looked down upon and Grant praised? Grant is a chucker. Maybe a little better defensively than Barnes, but far worse offensively.

Welp, the good news is that we don't have to argue about how Grant would fit here for the next couple of seasons.
Now, we just need John Collins and Gobert to change hands and then we might come up with some new stuff to talk about.

It says a little something about that ...
...but it also says a lot about how (not) highly rated Grant is. Except in this forum, where he seems to be very over-rated.

Does it?
My interpretation of this is that DET wanted to dump salary, and for once the dumpee PAID to take it. Multiple picks, too, though not crazy great ones. Still, no outgoing salary means a little bit of leverage, right?

I think he's much better on both ends than Barnes. The question was whether he was willing to take a smaller role on offense or if he would continue to be a #3 playing like a #1, hence the inefficiency. I don't know the answer to that (and would have needed to find out before pulling the trigger on a trade), but a solid 2-way forward to move Bullock to the bench is exactly what the Mavs need in my opinion.
