From the DMN

Burke in protocols: For the fourth time this season, Mavericks guard Trey Burke entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols, joining swingman Sterling Brown.

The difference is that Brown tested positive for COVID-19. In Burke’s case, it’s because he missed the testing window. Of the four times he has been in protocols, three have been for missing a test. Burke is unvaccinated, which means he must get tested more often than players and staff members who are vaccinated.

Asked whether he is concerned about Burke’s continued missed tests, coach Jason Kidd said: “No, I’m not concerned. If you miss it, you miss it. We’re grownups.”

DAL is 1 game back of GSW with 6 games to play for both.

DAL is 2 games ahead of both DEN and UTA.

Would be nice for Mavs to get the 3 spot and Utah falling to 6. Avoid Denver and the Suns (round 2).

probably will happen tonight ...
DAL W @CLE (lots of injuries, incl. Allen, Mobley, Sexton)
GSW L vs PHX
DEN W @IND

just have to freeze this for the rest of the season.

And DAL holds the tie-breaker over GSW?

Yes, 3-1

If we get to 3rd, I think we´ll make the WCF over the Denver ---> Memphis route.

I´m less confident of beating Utah, GS and even Minnesota (providing they catch Denver or beat Memphis).

It's all about health issues.

DEN will have to ride Jokic (MVP?) unless some of their injured players get back. Murray is out, Cancar is out, both for the season. MPG is D2D.

UTA has Whiteside, Bojan and House out, but don't know for how long.

GSW has Wiseman out for the season and Curry to be evaluated Friday for a foot sprain. Plus aches and pains for Thompson, Green and others.

MIN has Beasley out with an ankle sprain, but nothing else serious.

MEM has Morant out with a knee, due to be re-evaluated around the 5th. But they haven't missed a beat without him.

PHX just has late season aches and pains.

DAL traded away their main injury problem. THJ is still out, but everyone else seems relatively healthy.

Right now the 3/4 slot would play UTA or DEN. I think both are beatable, but DAL needs home court to insure most games are not at altitude.

Denver is at 5279 ft. (they don't call it Mile High City for nothing) and SLC is just over 4200 ft. DAL is at 430 ft.

Mavs can take care of catching #3 spot, which ensures avoiding PHX until WCF. Everything else is out of their control and they should not worry.
UTA has a tougher remaining schedule than DEN, but they playing PHX late, who might be resting players already.
GSW has PHX/UTA this week, but then Kings/Lakers/Spurs/Pels as the last 4. However, the last 3 game opponents might still fight for play-in spots.
MIN also has a mix of mid-level and weaker opponents. Games against TOR and DEN this week are most interesting.

My guess would be:
DAL in 3 with 52 wins
GSW in 4 with 51
DEN at 5 with 50
UTA at 6 with 49
MIN in 7 with 47

You’ve posted a few times now that you’d prefer Utah. Please explain. They seem like the toughest potential matchup to me. Denver and Golden State are hobbled by injuries. Memphis and Minny are young. Utah is experienced, star-studded, physical, and really dangerous from deep. Plus the altitude.
