Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
(06-29-2026, 02:01 PM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: Not sure why you are so defensive and/or confused; you said those three names as though they weren't planning on doing anything else. If you want further explication, I would offer the rejoinder of questioning how your post would indicate anything else than that. I read it as "Bringing back Nembhard seems to denote that they aren't getting any more point guards," which I didn't read it that way at all. I would see RN as the fourth guard at most, with De Larrea being deep bench/developmental unless he shows a DL3/CF-type learning curve.

I would bet good money that their one big target guy, whoever that ends up being, is more of a combo guard than a PG. IIRC you don't regard Kyrie as a PG, but if that were the case, either 1) he wouldn't be an NBA player, or 2) he can only be effectively be paired with Luka - or at least a PG who is not much smaller at all than Luka (and preferably better on D). I would presume whoever their target is will be either second or third in guard minutes alongside Kyrie and Christie.

Scott...no.

I listed those three names because that's how things stand NOW (assuming De Larrea is on the roster). If my post didn't indicate anything else, you probably shouldn't have projected additional meaning.

I hope you're right about there being "one big target guy" at PG (or combo guard) at least...or, I don't. MY point was about assessing where things are NOW, which is what I did. There was nothing to suggest anything else.

I didn't even put a negative spin on the post, honestly, though you seem to have inferred one, for whatever reason. I'd be just fine with another losing season "as long as the young guys get to play and develop." I'd also be fine with a winning season (the most obvious sentiment ever typed on a message board). The point of MY post was more "if/then" as most of my stuff is.

I'll say it again: a PG group of Kyrie, Nembhard and De Larrea does not seem like it will lead to much winning this year.

Sacramento is trading a 2033 second-round pick to Atlanta, per source, along with Devin Carter.

Atlanta remains active in other trade conversations, with two hours to go before a decision on Jonathan Kuminga's team option.

Weird.  Draft guys were really high on him.  Got hurt early and then Sacramento didn't play him.   When he did play, he looked pretty good from the eye test.

exhibit 1000 why Sacramento is basketball hell.   Take him Carter at #13 in 2024 and then barely play him and trade him or a 2033 second round pick.

Another good move by ATL, but man they have too many guys.   I would have been interested at him at that cost.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Bradley Beal will decline his $5.6M player option and become an unrestricted free agent, league sources tell me.

Does he have anything left.  Only played 6 games last year after a bad year in PHX.  Could be an interesting buy low candidate?

Except...if he's opting out...does he think he's going to get an actual GOOD deal? I'm out of touch with the current exact exception numbers: was $5.6 his minimum?

Can they still S&T him after declining the option (or extend the option?), cause that seems like a lose-lose situation otherwise. Kuminga not getting the 22.5M and the Hawks losing a trade-matching asset.

Okay, thanks for clarifying your position. I often disagree with you, but I always respect your knowledge and opinions.

They have some things lined up imo.   They need a center, I think.  They supposedly picked up the option on Buddy to trade.    I think Kuminga may be gone.   They just have too many bodies.   I think they do a two for 1 trade.  We will see.

I didn't clarify anything. It didn't require clarification. It was one of the simplest things I've ever written on this board.

What bodies do you suppose are up for grabs?

I've still got ATL on my list as a Gafford team, possibly.

My bad.  Sacramento gave a pick to Atlanta to take him. Sac better hope he can't play.

I think Kuminga and Buddy.   We will see if they just don't pick up his option, but I think they would like to trade.    Maybe Newell potentially?

How did NAW do for them last season? I assume they're still happy with that purchase?

I said this earlier, but Beal on a 2/20 year deal with a team option would be an incredible use for the MLE.

The Buddy Love vs THJ debates were fun back in the day.

NT-MLE starts at 15.37 this year.

Tax MLE starts at 6.06.

BAE is at 5.4

Well he fractured his hip off of a freak play. Before that he was around 50 games a year. Not great, but also at 10 mil for a potential 17-20ppg scorer and good shooter, we could do worse.

Coming off a hip fracture is kind of scary and I can't imagine he has a huge payday lined up, but who knows.  If you signed Bradley, you'd have to keep PJW as Kyrie/Beal tandem is going to require a helluva lot of defense to back them up.

Could also sign Sexton or Simons, who can give you 20 PPG without AD´s injury record and a horrible locker room presence. There is a better chance they trade for Morant.
