2020-2021 MAVS NEWS: Archived
Mavs need to give up on trying to fix the defense. That is to say, don't play mediocre offensive players in an attempt to play better defense. That isn't working. Fixing the offense is an easier problem. Be the best offense you can make and then try to get those players to work harder on defense.

I don't see this as very positive...

"Instead, he compared the roots of Doncic’s and Porzingis’ friendship to that of Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry. That’s not bad company to keep for young, championship-hungry NBA stars.
“If you remember, when we first got Jet, Dirk was not a fan,” Cuban said. “Dirk did not like him, and we lost in a playoff series because Jet made a mistake against [Steve] Nash and that just made it even worse.
If you remember, when we first got KP, Luka was not a fan,” Cuban said. “Luka did not like him, and we lost in a playoff series because KP got injured and that just made it even worse. Smile
“They weren’t best friends at the beginning, but they grew to like each other and grew to be great friends, and that’s just part of the process when you’ve got young kids who are growing up as professionals. It just comes with the turf.”
Doncic and Porzingis have shown no signs of glaring discontent.
Quite the opposite, for example, when Porzingis defended Doncic during a scuffle with the Clippers in their playoff debut last summer and when Doncic deflected outside criticisms toward his running mate in the frontcourt.
“It took forever before Dirk and Jet did anything off the court together, a long time,” Cuban said on The Fan. “KP and Luka get along fine. It’s just that they’re different people, so they like to do different things.
“If one guy likes one thing and somebody likes something different, every now and then, they’ll come together and be peanut butter and chocolate, but not always.”

I see nothing wrong in these paragraphs. Actually very encouraging there is no bad blood or major hatred going on...

Cuban says they get along fine but then compares it to an early negative situation.  Why?  I am not that worried about it but just struck me as odd that he even went there.  Jet and Dirk obviously are fast friends now but Luka and KP are not Dirk and Jet.

Glad to have them out in the open on this. We have all seen this for the last two seasons.

It is hopeful that they are talking about because that must mean things are getting better....

...unless this is trade posturing...posturing like everything is good in Mavs-land, things have been healed, so you better up your offer for KP.

I would not like KP either if I was Luka...KP has NOT helped Luka win one bit. A disaster of a fit so far.

Cuban didn't say that, that was inserted by Hypermav Smile

What he actually did say: "KP and Luka get along fine. It's just they're different people, so they like to do different things."

Going this far with it...like Cuban did...I dont think this has to do with "fit" like the posts suggest the article intends to illustrate.  Dirk didnt like Jet and Luka didnt like KP at first because of "fit"?  Is that an excuse or serious?   But then goes on to say stuff like "different people"  and "do different things"?

I am guessing there is a personality conflict.   I will go further and suggest that if this is so...its Luka not liking KP.   I will go further down the rabbit hole and say that on court fit is being used to amplify the conflict but is really just a side show to whats really going on.

The supposed issue with Luka and KP is talked about way too much for me to not invest a little into it.

If there is a personality issue(which seems to be whats being suggested) I can see an issue where Luka is a young, social, fun loving person and KP is a more mature, reserved, keep you at distance, not so social person.   I am by no means a psychologist and this is just from the brief moments you see of these two before and after games.  I could see a scenario where in a group setting(first few interactions with these two in group setting) Luka is fun-loving and trying to have a good time and KP is being reserved/overly mature and not laughing/reinforcing Luka's fun-loving behavior.   I could see Luka as thinking "Does this guy think I'm immature or stupid?  He makes me feel stupid by never laughing.  Is he trying to make others think Im stupid or immature?   Is he trying establish dominance?"

And it all snowballs from there.

I only say this because I see Luka as being super social and fun-loving and KP being very mature and reserved from the very brief moments you see these guys not in game.  Regardless...this should be an issue the Org should be able to resolve, Bobi or the teammates.  If that is the issue but the on court issue magnifies things...MBT needs to figure it out asap.

I am kind of just spit-balling in this post...but now that I write the above...it is kind of odd that Luka has been around grown men in an alpha dog profession since he was 16 and not be able to handle a personality conflict.   He should be ahead of the game.

Or its all BS.

Yeah, sounds logical. Or parents. As long as he would be next to person with Covid he would have to quarantine.
