Trade & FA 2023-24: HOU Targeting Mikal Bridges again!| Mitchell is LAL #1 Target
If they are looking at Williams, does that mean they’ll trade down on Hendricks if he is there?

I think both players make sense here.  A couple of implications if either is true.  They either come by S&T (more likely) or the full MLE.  Either of those hard caps us at $170mm.  If S&T what is the outgoing?  Do we see Wood in either Boston or Sacramento?

Wood in Bos does make a lot of sense with their perimeter defense.

Then the following happens. Nico calmly walks up to Cuban shakes his hand and says in about 30 seconds you´ll get very sleepy from the toxin in my hand, you will fall to the floor, I´ll call the Atlanta Hawks, utter the words we accept, do a little [Image: funny-dance-victory-dance.gif] over your old body and when you wake up again, the world will be in a slightly better place.

Then I will wake up and realize other owners are not that stupid. Cry

Did you see the new rumor of Bertans, McGee and 10 for Collins and Okongwu? That do anything for you? I’m on the fence but think more needs to be added from Atl (at least a few SRPs if not a future protected 1st).

I don't think Boston can stay below hard cap if they SnT for Wood.

As for Sacramento, I forgot who the target is, but their goal would be to let Barnes walk to clear cap space.

Tough one. Really comes down to what you think of Okungwu vs. the available prospects at #10. Also need to factor in that Okungwu is getting paid in 12 months. Though it´s very tempting to get rid of Bertans/McGee. I might actually add a customary future 2nd from our end and ask for Jalen Johnson, too.

I was thinking if they were making Okongwu available instead of Capela maybe a different angle?

Okongwu, Bey and Griffin for 10, Bullock and McGee?

Who has that rumor?

I’d sign that as fast as I possibly could.  Okongwu is exactly what we need for the defensive scheme we play.  He’s highly likely to be better than anything you’ll get at 10.  Deal then becomes Bertans/McGee for Collins.  Highly paid something for not as highly paid nothing.  Sign me up.

Was that a legit rumor or fantasy trade?

Collins is a very specific player to build around. He needs to be a small ball centre or PF next to a floor spacing big. Mavs have one in Maxi. Collins defense is average. Okongwu is another undersized center. Good defender but a non shooter. Not sure either really fits what Mavs need. Rebounding would continue to be a problem, but they could play heavily switching defense with Luka, Okongwu, Collins and Maxi as key front court guys. Try to pump Collins stats and flip him for a better defender at TDL or next summer.

I guess it’s not a rumor, it’s a published trade article although I only see it as a screenshot on Discord. I don’t know how to post that here.

The thing that always gets me is this.

Denver are already a dominant champion with their whole core in their physical prime and the team they just played in the finals is about to add a healthy Tyler Herro (for Robinson) and Bradley Beal (for Lowry) and our LOTTERY TEAM owner thinks that to replace Dwight Powell with Clint Capela will make up for this gap within one summer.

Why can´t they approach the situation with some common sense and plan for the summer of 2024, where they finish the roster construction to be a real contender, when the play-offs start in May 2025. That way there is no pressure to deal the #10 pick, cause he´ll have two years to be ready just like Jaden Hardy and Josh Green. There is no pressure to trade Bertans or McGee now, cause they will be bought out in the summer of 2024, plus THJ will be on an $16M expiring contract.

The only pressure comes more the Mavs Luka panic and delusion that they can build this roster into a contender from the lottery in one summer, with the least amount of assets in the whole league. That short-sighted arrogance has always been Cuban´s downfall and it will be again, cause others exploit it over and over again.

Most likely it will lead to another horrible decision/trade around the 10th pick like they did nby trading the 2022 1st round pick. Here are also some win now facts:

Christian Wood in April 2023: 14/5/2, 50/38/82
Jaden Hardy in April 2023: 16/3/3, 45/50/78

So much for win now. The only saving grace of Nico´s whole GM stint is that draft day trade and Jaden Hardy pick. All his other roster moves have been horseshit, if we are totally honest. I say the draft is where his expertise is and where he came from. It´s also the place Cuban probably interfers the least with, cause outside of trading the pick, he has no interest in it.

I´d be so curious to know IF other GMs/owners call/ed and text/ed Cuban directly for draft day trades, cause they might be concerned Nico/Donnie just block away their calls/messages. The ideas are probably so one-sided and stupid no self-respecting person would consider them.

That trade I probably do. Only Taylor Hendricks would make me think about it. I´d do it over Walker, Black or Ausar Thompson.

Once Bertans and Bullock are gone and THJ and McGee are expirings in a year, do you know how much it would suck to have Collins at that point for another two years and 27m/yr??

If ATL wants to trade him, make it hurt.

Bro, Luka Doncic cures a lot of sins. Kyrie Irving (for all of his craziness) cures a lot of issues as well. The two alone combine for almost 60 points a game on nearly 50% shooting.

That is insane levels of offense. A modicum of defense and closing out possessions cures a LOT. Capela does those 2 things in droves (albeit he is declining in production).

So yes, I think the addition of just Capela and 1-2 starter wings will be enough to vault this team back into a top 4 seed.

I agree mostly, but let me add, Luka and Kyrie will keep us in most games. They are both clutch as hell on offense. We need guys that can be clutch on defense at the end of games. I think Capela is probably a piece to that. Would love to see a SF and PF add to that. I think there is a path to contention next year if we can nail this offseason.

Doncic/Irving were on a 28 win pace together.

Since leaving Cleveland Kyrie has played with

2018: Kyrie/Brown/Tatum/Hayward/Horford
2019: Kyrie/Brown/Tatum/Hayward/Horford
2020: Kyrie/Dinwiddie/Prince/Durant/Allen
2021: Kyrie/Harden/Dinwiddie/Durant/Jordan
2022:Kyrie/Curry/Simmons/Durant/Claxton
2023: Kyrie/Doncic/THJ/Kleber/Powell

Closest these teams got to win a championship was winning one game in the 2nd round.

What evidence is there that Kyrie wins you basketball games? His teams have the same record without him as they do with him, since he left Cleveland. His teams have underperformed every year compared to expectations.

Arrogance.

Arrogance.

Evidence: 2016 NBA championship in which Kyrie hit the go-ahead clutch 3 to seal the win. He averaged 25 a game on 47.5/44/87.5 shooting (Finals alone he averaged 27 a game on 47/40/94). His playoff averages: 23ppg on 45/40/90.

In the regular season prior to joining the Mavs, Kyrie's teams have averaged: 49.9 wins a season (60% win pace).

There is the evidence.

As to why this team didn't perform after the trade, one suggesting the blame should be placed on the Kyrie+Luka duo lends to believe that they didn't actually watch the games.

In fact, it was Kyrie+Luka being the only ones keeping us alive in the latter half of the season despite everyone else's inclinations to lose. The lack of defense and rebounding sealed this team's fate, and was only amplified after the trade. To suggest that the duo is inherently flawed and ignore the reasons why the team lost games that were out of control of the duo is folly.

Finally, curse you for making me defend Kyrie. Cause I really don't like the dude. But he is without a doubt the best player Luka has ever played with, and offensively the two are historical together. The team last year after the trade wasn't anywhere close to being good enough defensively to mask the flaws of Luka+Kyrie. That's why literally all the discussion since April has been adding a rebounder and defensive wings.
