MAVS NEWS:

This.

Guys who enough gravity as shooters create space because the defense knows their goal is to get X number of shots off and want to limit their attempts. The guys who have the most gravity can get those shots off anyway with off-ball movement, footwork and high, fast releases.

I'm saying he's not a shooter in the sense that you're selling, that's it. His percentage is pretty good for a 3&D guy, which is awesome. I have watched every game he's played as a Mav, which I assume you have, also, and I think he doesn't have enough gravity to offer the kind of space needed with the current mix (Flagg, basically). Nothing to do with his percentage - I think he needs to shoot more, and faster. But, that would make his percentage go down, because it's not his game! That's the whole point. I don't think he fits with Flagg.

You said I have an obsession with position labels. Quite the opposite. You responded to my reply to mossman about ‘if all he wanted was a 35% 3PT shooter next to Flagg in the frontcourt’ then all of the players I listed fit that criteria. And IMO all the others offer much more offensively than Klay. I don’t need to debate PJ’s shooting. Never wanted to. Don’t want to again tbh. You’re the one that keeps going down that path.

To me this screams Thompson + Gafford + Martin + Nembhard for any big expiring contracts.

That creates roster slots for Cisse and Ishchenko and would take the Mavs to like 117M in committed salary including a team option for Aldama and a player option for Kyrie next summer.

Irving / DeLarrea / Sasser
Lavine / Christie / Ishchenko
Flagg / Marshall / Biberovic
Washington / Aldama / MLE?
Johnson / Lively / Cisse

Three words for you, 21. Lavine is “fetch.”

I could see them doing that for a vet two-way guard, possibly.

Honestly, I'm not at all sure we can make this into a sensible argument. There's too much projection of stats.

Spot on. It turned into something else entirely. Good to leave it alone. Smile

I used Klay because he is by far the best floor spacer on the roster.

You can make a counter argument, but the fact you don’t see it as a sensible argument leads me to believe you are greatly underestimating the value of gravity on the court.

You can replace Klay with Max if it makes more sense to you. I think he is a little small to be the third biggest player on the court which is why I didn’t go there.

Pj seems to be the exact same type player as Yaxel is. So considering we have May as our coach, i bet he sees him as that exact same player in his sytem. basically a sf that can play up at all times and run the floor. so if that is the acurate then where does that put Flagg? either PF or SG. it seems unlikely Flagg plays PF becuase they just drafted and traded for two quality pf's/centers. so my guess i that he starts Flagg at sg and /PJ/Rez as the wings with Aldama as an alternate depending on who is shooting well or what the matchup is. then if he wants to go "small ball" he can put any of those three at center and get with the length around them, not really loose much on defense.

What makes you say this? Is it just their size?

It's a ridiculous argument. Full stop.

Of course it's kind of what we do here.

I don't think it's ridiculous to suggest Thompson is better fit with Flagg/Johonson on OFFENSE than Aldama. I actually agree with that. I think Aldama is a better fit with those two than a lot of others, but...

Isn't that what he said? What am I missing?

No player can play just "offense." It's so hypothetical as to be almost nonsensical.

Ok, I agree with that, too.

I do think Thompson has more left to offer, even on defense, than the consensus around here. But, I also think he won't be on the team, so who cares, I guess.

I don’t agree. And you haven’t really provided much of a counter argument.

I know. I really like him. What a professional. I'd love to give him to a playoff team.

I’m not sure Aldama is that much better perimeter defender than Klay to make this nonsensical

I don't care enough about your argument to try. No offense.

You're kind of the board contrarian. Sometimes I think that's really useful. Just not this time.

Let's face it, my guy. It's 2026 and we're on a message board still.

We're ALL "the board contrarian." Every last one of us.

Is that what I am?  I know that when I disagree with someone’s point I give reasons instead of calling it ridiculous.
