TRADE: Dallas receives Zaccharie Risacher in 3-team deal
(07-21-2026, 03:12 PM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: The problem with it is that it suggests that the Mavs might have trouble making future trades. The Hawks didn't want the five or six players we might have been able to offer them, but we had the TPE. And now we don't. Hopefully the other 28 teams don't see things the same way.

You can't just assume that because a player wasn't a fit in Atlanta then nobody else will want him either. For example, a lot of it is also cap driven. One of the reasons the Hawks like Dort and not another player (perhaps even a better player) is because he's an expiring.

The new 3M Mavs braintrust has proven to be very resourceful in trades. I have plenty of confidence they'll continue to make good deals.

Morez will get as many minutes as he can play, and he’ll be very good, except for all of the fouling, which will limit him to probably the mid 20s in terms of minutes per game. His developmental arc will, as much as anything, be about learning to be effective without the fouls. An old school coach would protect him during his rookie year by limiting his role lower than what would otherwise be ideal.

It's not the players Dallas is offering that's the problem. Gafford and PJW are good players, and loads of teams would want them. It's the money they have attached. It doesn't have to be "bad salary" for a team not to want it anymore, it just has to be "salary," lol.

I bet loads of teams would want Marshall, so my assumption is either that Dallas isn't shopping him or that they're asking for too much.

I think they already have something setup involving Thompson. The whole world seems convinced he's going to play in Miami next season, so I'm guessing they've already got a deal lined up, agreed to buy him out...something.

You have a point, but in this case the Hawks were apparently looking for guards, not their favorite forward or center from the potpourri the Mavs could offer.

I've seen comments about not losing Klay for nothing, but aren't there advantages to a "good guy" buyout? If he has an "understanding" with Team X, then buying him out for the salary difference saves DAL cap space (1st +) and opens up a roster spot (2nd +) without costing any scarce draft assets (3rd +). I guess there is no hurry to do it until Team X is ready to take him on. Sort of like trading him into cap space without getting a TPE back.

If someone of his stature has been upfront and honest about his desire to be elsewhere during one of his few remaining seasons, I'd say it's worth a think at least on giving him what he wants, yes. He's earned it.

Has he let the Mavs know that? We have no clue.

I'm ok with Klay stay and teach Biberovic, Jett and others how to move under/over/between screens.

Well that's discouraging.

After watching that, and the damning judgment of his processing and feel, I can't figure out why M&M would have been interested in him at all. Aren't those kind of their biggest evaluative concerns outside of positional size?

BTW, if that's correct, Seva is twice as good as he is at processing and feel.

Yes let’s look at an anti-highlight reel and jump to conclusions.

I watched this guys draft stuff and found it pretty interesting.  To be honest though, I didn't watch all of this one.   I don't think you have to look at his pre NBA stuff to build a case because he was pretty solid as a rookie in the NBA.   I don't think anyone thought he would wind up being a good #1 pick.    Most thought he was a slight reach in a weak top of the draft.

When the AD rumors hit last year, I did watch some games to watch Hawks and Riscacher games.  He was not good mostly.   There was no doubt he lost confidence.   The Hawks had some players who got expanded roles which lessoned Zacc minutes.  Instead of trying to prove he deserved more minutes, he sort of backed off a bit.   He needs to push through with this moving forward.

As far as hope, I think you put your trust in the culture Masai tries to build.   It is one where players feel a little safe and protected and they will put their best effort forward.   Also, what May did in college with putting players in their best spots are a part of this.   Your hope is the Masai aura with the May clear communication can unlock a real nice role player.

From what Ive read from Hawks fans, he was not a bad processor with bad feel offensively at all. He'd take bad shots like all young players do, but it was predominantly that he had very little self creation skills, and his confidence fell off a cliff, not to mention his injury likely hampered him to a degree.

Seems to be mental, yes - also fits Trae‘s tweet of him now being free.

Is it probable he becomes a very good NBA player? Probably not - but a 20 per cent chance is still 19 per cent higher than Nembhard.

Sounds like the perfect rehab for Dusty.

I think his future success is totally dependent on whom they hire as medical staff.
