MAVS 103, NUGGETS 89
To get back on topic....

I just am so glad that our imbecile coach is gone who refused to play our center who is one of the all time leaders in PER more and who also insisted on starting a fringe NBA wing who doesn't have a single elite NBA skill. And thankfully our great owner is back in charge who has always made the right GMing decisions for two straight decades.

Absolutely. As I stated. I don´t have a better solution and I don´t want to make excuses for the ugly end that was basically just him lashing out.  And I wouldn´t want to change places with any of you guys. I don´t have the right temper for it.
But that´s also what I mean when I talk about one of the problems of a small community lead board. There simply aren´t any neutral moderators because active posters (basically including all mods) interact with each other on a daily basis. It´s not possible to avoid a personal bias in a situation like this. Some members have known each other for years. Some might have relationships that go beyond the usual messenger board interaction.

Anyway. I don´t want to turn this thread into a mod supervision.

Was always on the more negative  side but in my opinion he made some really good points and I cannot remember him ever getting into it with another poster prior to the conflict we all witnessed a few month ago. It ended badly and I don´t want to make an excuse for the insults and personal attacks that lead to his ban. Question is if this could have been avoided. Just really difficult to manage a situation where posters clash with mods. One is always operating from a position of authority.

This board is a special place because it is run by the community. That has many advantages but it also leads to some problems. Including the management of situations like this. Bigger boards have clear policies for things like timeouts, strikes or bans. They have more active members (also more mods) so it is easier to find people that aren´t a part of the conflict to make decisions like this.
All I can say is that from my personal experience I have rarely seen a conflict on this board where I would say that person a/b/c is solely responsible. More often than not it takes two to escalate a situation. As mentioned it is even more complicate when a mod is involved.

It´s difficult and I cannot offer a better solution right now. Thankfully conflicts like this are a rarity. For the most part this board is an awesome place to talk Mavs.
For the most part this place is incredible. The basketball discussion is top notch and everybody around here is amazing. I stand by my opinion that this is the best online community in all of sports. But JS was always kind of an aggressive member. He used to get into it with other posters even back when fish was running things. I distinctly remember him telling that PSA collector guy to go kill himself once on the old boards.  That being said the move over here almost completely shed us of any toxic members that we had. JS was the last of them. Now the worst thing that happens around here is that I might read opinions that I disagree with.

Okay. One last point. This is as vague as it gets and more or less leaves the mods the freedom to act however they want. I know that non of you are abusing the options and I also know that this is just a hobby but maybe a more detailed explanation would help. For example...personally I have never used the report button. Would be nice to know what happens if I suddenly feel the urge to report @"KillerLeft"  for Boban slander. Big Grin

We made it vague intentionally because we didn't wan to throw a bunch of rules at everyone. But, you know what, I have not idea what happens when you hit the report button!!!

You should report me, as a test case. Then @"ClutchDirk" can review the situation and ban me if he wants to!!!

If you reported me for something real, I'd probably be in some hot water. But for Boban slander I'm sure we'd just schedule another zoom pizza party to celebrate my astonishing clarity and rare style.

Does that help?

Hey, in the same manner, we should also take things over from Cuban. We could do that all right as well.

Absolutely understand why. I think the bottom line is that all of us are just a bunch of Mavs fans (with some sleeper Rocket fans that are trying to destroy the community from within, yes I have my own conspiracy theories).
Things were more organized when Fish was still in charge but I prefer the current board. Let´s just say that Fish could be very restricitve when people disagreed with him or called him out for a click bait article. I agree that our more open approach that gives posters and mods the freedom to let some things go instead of turning it into something bigger is working.
I don´t think any of us put much thought into the mod work and rules of a message board when the community moved places. We were all just happy to have a place to continue our discussions. Ever since it has been a learning by doing approach. I don´t see a need to change that. It´s not like conflicts like the mentioned ones happen on a daily basis.

JADE isn't part of this community anymore. If you suspect anyone else of being a Rockets fan, use that damn report button and I will personally sort them out.

@"KillerLeft" is going to a Mavs game when Boban is in health and safety protocols. Coincidence? I don´t think so. That alone should give the mods something to think about.

We could make a vote for each important team decision and the majority would decide the outcome. Would be fun. I'm sure it would work even better than now.

Hmmm....not sure that "majority" thing would produce the results we're after.

Bane would be playing next to Luka now, and drain the open 3s. But i'm sure there would be other problematic wrong decisions as well. I think we would find out that Cubans job is not that easy at all, at contrary it's quiet difficult.
