MAVS NEWS:
(06-30-2025, 09:05 AM)DallasMaverick Wrote: Was he?

FG% 41.8, just slightly higher than his career average
3FG% 33.4%, also above career average
3.5:1 assist:turnover ratio- pretty respectable

Defensive rating 119, which is poor, but not unusually worse than his career.

He hit some big shots, helped win some games.  A pretty good value for a vet min guy.

Agreed but I still don’t want him back because of his poor style of play. He did bring us the perfect number of wins including a fun play in win that did not cost us young Mr Flagg.

Hmm..

I wonder if NBA scouting reports have a checkbox for "His style of play offends my eyes".

If we do sign DLO today, that means that we have brought in three players this summer who went to Montverde: Flagg, Nehmhard and DLO.

Started 1 game his rookie year.

Played in 33, averaged a little less than 6 minutes per game.

I stand corrected.

Dallas Mavericks star P.J. Washington gushed about the pick.

Washington spoke to DJ Siddiqi of RG.org. And he made an extremely strong statement about the former Duke player.

“I think Cooper’s very good,” Washington said. “I think he’s a really good player. Obviously, he’s going to have a chance to be something really special here in Dallas. I’m super glad because he has the opportunity to play with Kyrie, A.D. and the rest of the guys. Everybody’s excited—the whole city is excited—and we can’t wait to get him here.”

Then he got even more effusive.

“He can pretty much do everything at an elite level. At his age, that’s what separates him. He has great length, he’s tall, and he can play both ends of the floor—obviously what you want. I just think he’s a generational player," he said to RG.

Washington was hopeful about the team's prospects.

“We have a great team—a lot of guys who want to win, a lot of guys who love working. The extensions I thought were necessary, obviously. Kyrie (Irving) is a great player, and so is Daniel (Gafford)," he told RG. "They really mean a lot to our team. Just having those guys back is going to be great. And especially with Cooper this year, I just can’t wait to get everybody on the court and playing together.”

At a press conference, coach Jason Kidd explained his strategies for Flagg.

"I don't look at the position, you know, I want to put him in at the point guard," Kidd said. "I want to make him uncomfortable and see how he reacts. Being able to run the show, being able to play the 2, play the 3. He's comfortable playing [the 3], but we want to push, and I think he's going to respond in a positive way. It's all right to fail. It's all right to turn the ball over. We've talked about that."

Please Knicks don't give up, you can have Kidd and make KAT uncomfortable playing SG and see how he reacts.

Dinwiddie won me over when, after a big game and press conference, he started to walk off, turned around, and admitted to being Iron Man.

I would have rather Clarkson, but they both have warts.

Both have warts but DR is serviceable for what we need.

Also allows us to ease in BW a bit in a back up role until Kyrie returns. Nembhard also can take his time developing in the G-league.  All of that without giving up any assets.  Hopefully, we can draft a PG of the future a year from now.

Listening to this DLLS podcast and I guess I need to mentally prepare myself for this season being a gap year. All three guys have the Mavs around .500 and as a play in team.

I guess the question is whether Nico is being patient on purpose or whether he really thinks this roster can compete for at top 4 seed.

I can't believe the first part of the season is going to blow anyone away. This lineup is a challenge.

Harrison absolutely thinks they can compete, as do many people here.

Personally, I think more skill with the ball on offense and more on-ball defense is needed pretty desperately, but we'll see.

There's a large segment of NBA fans (Mavs fans included) who believe more size = more talent. I've always thought their understanding of the game was a little sophomoric, but unless a trade comes down soon that we don't see coming, we're about to find out once and for all if they're right. Part of me welcomes the opportunity to definitively point to this upcoming season when those arguments break out in the future. And, hey, if I've been wrong all these years, the Mavs are about to have a great season, so...you know, win-win.

THE MAVS CURRENT ROTATION WHEN HEALTHY

PG: Kyrie - DLO - Brandon Williams
SG: Klay - Christie - Hardy
SF: Flagg - Naji - Martin
PF: AD - PJ - Prosper
C: Lively II - Gafford - Powell

I cannot stress enough how much Flagg changed the trajectory and ceiling for this team. Holy crap what a freaking longshot.

I agree with you for the most part. You have to have elite guard play. BUT having a definitive takeaway about your overall opinion, from the results of this season, without the one elite guard (Kyrie), is still going to leave you wondering.

True.

40/45 wins is a great target for this squad... Hoping our Robin will come back soon and our Catwoman can stay healthy.

Who is going to be the on-court leader of this team to start the season?

This is a very good question.  And one that I have no answer to.  None of our current team has shown any leadership abilities, or even inclination to be a leader.

It seemed Kyrie fell into that position naturally as time went on.  He'll be out for a while.

I would like to say PJW, but I simply don't know if he can, or will.

AD?....nawwwww.  Klay?...no.  Gafford?...I don't think so.

I don't know anything about DLo except that he used to piss me off sometimes when playing against the Mavs.

Can a rookie be a/the leader?  Man...that would be putting a lot on CF--and I'm worried that some of us already have unrealistic expectations for him.

I think I'm going to hide and watch for awhile.  Hope that a leader drops out of the sky.  A headless snake is dangerous...but it's...headless.
