Technically, no one is supposed to tamper either.  I'm not buying it.

I think for whatever financial reason, the Mavs could not fit both Klay and DJJ.  Whether that's DJJ wanting too much money or something FGump would know about the CBA/apron.

They better Fing land Klay or this is a disaster

Think he's saying (read in your quote) that it's ludicrous to believe that DJJ and teams pursuing him are going to let the rules stop them.

It’s just that they only have one POA defender on the roster right now, and I don’t think he’s going to play enough to have the type of impact Jones just did.

Uhhhh

Hold your horses here KL.

Marshall might be good enough to be a POA defender.

Look who he's guarding in these clips: Kyrie, Fox, SGA, J-Dub, Tatum

I don’t think Marshall is a starter in a contender. But heck I didn’t think Jones was either last year before the season started. I think he is best as a bench piece. I don’t think anyone else on our roster has proven they are ready to start at the 3. Mavs need to finish the job. May need to find insurance at the 4 too.

If the three point shooters aren’t able to make up for the defensive shortcomings of Luka and Kyrie, they still lose, just with a higher score. The team has to make sense on both ends of the floor. Last year was the first time it made sense on the defensive end of the floor since 2011. Literally, that long, although 2022’s defense had its moments.

Show me metrics where jones one of best defenders.   Y’all overrating him and I have no idea why - I’ll take little worse defender who can shoot better

Again, I think they had agreed to a number before free agency started. Hence, all of the confidence.

Now, I think this Thompson thing is spinning out of control on them a little, and I think they know they would have to go back to Jones with a lower number than he wants.

THAT’S what I don’t think they feel comfortable waiting to do. I think it’s a simple matter of “better to snag Marshall now, who will take the money we have available (with the Thompson offer having to increase), than to risk losing Jones in a week (all backup plans gone) because he feels lowballed relative to our earlier conversations.”

Loved DJJs hustle and defense. Especially loved his athleticism. That being said he wasn’t a great playmaker or passer. He was a limited player who excelled in the Mavs system.

Now don’t get me wrong. I love him and hope there is still a way to get him back because he excels in this system! It is nice though seeing some highlights where Nani appears to be a bit more of a complete player. The eye test definitely seems to hold up based on the stats here.

Nah, it’s not on me to convince you of anything.

If you’re happy, I don’t know why you care. Please, go and enjoy the off-season. Stay as long as you like!

There has to be some dark horse team that DJJ / Rich Paul is counting on to sign him. Have not heard any teams lnked to him at all, except LA, where the fit does not make sense, especially if they sign Klay.

Somewhere, SGA is probably pumping his fist right now

And btw, this might have even been the RIGHT call, because Marshall IS a way better get than what might have been left over in a week if Jones had walked.

But, I don’t think Jones would’ve walked, and I don’t think Thompson is going to be worth all this.

Al things being equal I would have preferred staying with the known. Time will tell if I will grow to like Marshall like I did with Jones.

One thing I really like is Dallas is focusing on these tough physical wings who are not lost causes at shooting. Guys who will just be pests to other teams. jones fit this well. Hopefully Grimes and Marshall can do this as well. Omax is waiting in the wings. I never thought Green got there but he could have the biggest upside if he figures it out. I don’t think he fits the role the team has for him rhough

Philly has some money left. Orlando has money. Detroit has an entire bank vault.

There will be teams available for DJJ.

Tough to see Derrick Jones Jr go… but Naji Marshall is a great replacement for Mavs.

26 years old
6’7” with a 7’1” wingspan
Good defense
40.7% on wide open threes
39.6% on catch & shoot threes
42% on corner threes

Nico Harrison continues to show he is very good at his job.

We'll see.. Chasing Klay threw a monkey wrench in this thing.

DJJ: whats the bad news?
Rich Paul: Welcome to Detroit baby!

I know Marshall. I don’t have to watch his highlights. I already said it’s a good player on a good deal.

Jones wasn’t just a great defender, he was the right TYPE of great defender.
