TRADE: MIN gets Mo Gueye+ #33 pick | CHI gets Claxton | Nets get Julius Randle + #28

Is there some underlying agreement that one of Chicago´s guards Simons or Sexton or both moves into that Minnesota TPE? Cause logically Randle + #28 for Claxton + #33 seems like a reasonable enough deal. I just don´t understand how Chicago enters the picture and gets everything for free. Is Chicago the NBA´s new mission after reviving LA and NY?

A very interesting trade. I get the Minny part. They reduced their salaries and gained flexibility to resign Ayo and room for another addition via the TPE or expanded deal. Brooklyn doesn't own their pick next year and Randle will help them get more competitive. Chicago I don't fully understand. They needed a center but it seems they were selling their cap space (too) cheaply. This is a summer where plenty of teams will be trying to reduce salaries to get under the aprons and now Lakers are a team with highest (theoretical) cap space. Brooklyn and Chicago are out of max cap space targets like Reaves now, but they still have enough to help teams like Denver.

The Wolves paid 5 draft spots to dump Randall.  Negative value.  

Who plays C for Brooklyn now.  Someone they draft at 6?  Or someone they draft at 9?

First indication was that the move opens minutes for Sharpe, who some thinks was their best center last season. I am not sure if this means they will necessarily go after a center in draft.

I just don't understand why the Mavs and specifically Masai would bail out the Lakers.

2029 pick is a big asset. Giving the Lakers probably the best center on the market specifically for Luka is silly. Especially for just the 25th pick. The Lakers are very desperate. 

And the most recent report that Luka has them on the clock and may be interested in leaving if they can't fix the team this summer, the Mavs should be highly motivated to not help them at all.

I am not sure Gafford really is what Lakers need. He is a nice center, but more of a 25 mpg than 30+ mpg solution at center. While he is a great fit offensively with Luka, his defensive limitations on perimeter are well known and would be exposed a lot in a line-up with Luka and Reaves. I see Gafford more as a bonus than the real solution. Mavs were great with the combo of Lively and Gafford at center and Lakers would still need the "Lively" part (Hayes is of course not it). If a center on a higher salary would be the goal, Lakers could have just snatched Claxton for free ("only" 8 mil of salary more). Or they could probably sign either Mitchell Robinson or RWIII for similar money to Gafford - both are similar quality and wouldn't cost a FRP to get. 

It is possible they might have other plans for the position.

They are on the market for a C, and they were probably angling for Bam if the Heat failed Giannis deal, which obviously hasn't happened.

Claxton was also one of the good available options for them, and now he is gone.

They are a team with plenty of assets that they can spare, including our own first next year and a couple of picks this year that are more valuable than what the lakers have.

If they have any interest in Gafford, they are the team to talk to IMHO.

Gafford is a good back-up C who can't play in PO... We know very well. Maybe even Doncic.

May gave an interview on the KOC show where he spoke highly of some of the guys in the late teens/early 20's.  Trade down teams with two picks are obviously OKC/Charlotte.  Milwaukee could do 13/21 if they do a Herro to Detroit deal.

Would rather stay at 9.  Most folks seem to be assuming they can get 12 and 17 straight up for 9 (which I am skeptical of).  That would make the above deal terrible.

In order to get a pick back next year you trade 30 & 48 and for it not to be guaranteed Miami's pick, I'd call that a win
Trading Gafford and dropping from 9 to 14 is the same trade value wise made to deal Randle
Dallas comes out with 18 on top of it.
