Can't Kyrie run point?

The roster was set up to play pick and roll basketball. Kyrie is not a pick and roll player.

This is bananas.

Yeah hell I don't know. This is hard to even process at the moment. I'm quite mad about the return.
I agree that Silver should VETO this trade but he's the same one who didn't do anything about knicks tampering. Brunson in NY, Doncic in LA, and a team in Vegas sounds lucrative.

Does it feel to anyone else like this puts Butler to Dallas in play, or is it just me?

Not to mention Kat and OG to NYK relatively cheaply with zero picks leaving NY if I’m remembering right.

They should have called Riley and he´d given them Butler and the whole roster outside of Adebayo.

How? What are we offering then for Butler? How do we match salaries?

Maybe it doesn't add up to Butler, I'm still processing, but THIS MUCH is clear:

1) Luka didn't do this - the Mavs did.

2) It came completely out of left field. Totally off the radar. That means the Lakers were very likely their FIRST call, and Kidd has worked with AD before. Kyrie probably knows him pretty well.

3) They didn't create a bidding war for draft capital and young talent. They TARGETED AD, meaning they reached a point where they wanted Davis MORE than they wanted Luka. (Right or wrong, that should tell us something about how Luka was viewed by this organization, as an aside).

4) He's 31, and on a similar timeline to Kyrie. They THINK they can win this year or next...maaaaaybe the one after that. That is now the window. (How's that unprotected pick they sent for Kyrie that none of you cared about looking NOW, btw?)

5) That means (I think) there's a decent chance we see more outgoing players from among the YOUNGER Mavericks and that players Butler's age are all of a sudden not going to seem like a waste of time, because, again, the Mavericks clearly believe their window is NOW.

6) They are VERY, VERY clearly moving away from pick and roll basketball if they're planning to build around Kyrie and AD. I'd say that almost certainly means either Gafford, Lively or BOTH are getting dangled out there right now, as we speak.

7) AD has always thought of himself (incorrectly) as a 4. I sincerely hope their plan is to play him at center, but if it's not, and If they DON'T move one of the centers, it's a lead pipe cinch that PJ is gone soon. I have NO trouble thinking of a trade for Butler that we don't see coming. I haven't done the math, but...Lively, PJW and Grimes? Does that even get close? Probably not close enough (don't hold it against me, up is now down and I'm not thinking clearly), but my point is that this is very likely the first of a series of moves designed to redirect the titanic, and more quickly than it was designed to turn.

This is CRAZY. I have a 6 month old puppy that I love. Guess what I named him? Hell, I have a box that arrived today from Amazon with two brand new Mavericks hats in it that I don't know if I even want at the moment.

Killer you might be on to something with Butler or some other win now player. I expect more moves now, but that doesn't make me hate this trade any less. F the new owners for this BS!

I legit feel bad for Luka. He'll thrive in LA, but this is embarrassing for him. He lost 116 million losing his super max. This was really a shitty move personally for Luka. I don't think it's a good look for the Mavs franchise.

I can't stop thinking about that unprotected '29 they gave up for Kyrie.

I kept saying "how can you guys not care about an UNPROTECTED pick from a year when Luka might not even play for the Mavs anymore?" Here we are.

I have a feeling the next decade is not going to be kind to Mavericks fans.

Yeah but we all assumed Luka would ask out in that scenario, not the other way around. This is insane. The unprotected pick looks terrible at the moment.
^ We gave up an unprotected pick swap to the Spurs to get Grant Williams.

I don't think Nico is going to enjoy this press conference.

Well, for one thing, they're trashing him through back channels right now (tons out there already about his conditioning and work ethic tonight, with more to come, I'm sure), and you know...they kind of HAVE TO just to keep the angry mob somewhat controlled. It's a horrible, awkward situation for everyone involved. In a way I'm kind of impressed they had the balls to do this, but also...there's a REASON teams don't do things like this.

Nobody has been more critical than me about Luka, especially lately, but OMG...when you have a player like that, you FIX HIM, you don't THROW HIM AWAY. When do we expect them to have another dude this good? Will it even happen during my lifetime?

And...WHY DO THE LAKERS GET BAILED OUT TIME AND TIME AGAIN????

They have no picks from 2027 to 2030, when they will be one of the worst teams in the league, cause Kyrie and AD will miss anywhere from 40 to 82 games (cause they elsewhere). This is the most blatant corrupt move in NBA history. It´s like they put all conspiracies into one trade.

1. Klutch planted Harrison in Dallas.
2. Adelsons want to relocate franchise to Vegas.
3. Lakers need a new franchise player to be relevant again.
EDIT
4. Nico will step down and be the new Nike CEO in 18 months.

There is no point going forward with this. I´d advise you find a new team to cheer for until the Mavs get a new franchise.

This iteration of the Mavs won´t be in Dallas within five years anyway, IF you are lucky. A expansion franchise with new ownership will compete before this version of Dallas with no talent and no picks.

Mavericks fans?  I followed this team when they gave up on Kidd and players like Walter Bond and Muursepp were here.  This just hits so different though.

As others are saying , dwindling ratings and wanting the Lakers to succeed in return for a move to LV is the only thing that makes sense. If this team does stay here maybe a new generation of fans will show up eventually.  I have two kids close to 20.  Both said they are done with the NBA today.  I don’t see them getting excited even if this team wins a title with AD.  Luka was their guy and their bragging rights when discussing hoops with cousins in other states.

it seems people in the higher ups really hated Luka and really love AD for this to happen.

if they just hated Luka, why not send him to th Wizards or Jazz and get some juicy picks?

Nico, Kidd and probably Kyrie are all in on this. They felt that they can contend with AD (which they wont)

Crazy to think that the team just made the finals last year too. This really cant be happening.
