I see both as MLE level players. What's a 4yr deal starting at the MLE? 4/$65 million?
I was just working off the fake Watson number. If the Clippers gave Watson such a big deal, then I´d feel entitled to similar money from my team as Mathurin. That doesn´t mean the Clippers want to do it or I think he is worth it, just that I´d have a hard time accepting that I´m worth half of a Watson, cause he was feeling himself for half a season.

Teams want rotation players more than they care about “not helping out” someone in a financial jam. I don’t see any significant assets going to the team acquiring him.
Strus is too old, too pricey, and too injured to fit with this team, further jams up the roster if you just take him into the TPE without compensation coming with him, and probably puts the team into the tax for... not much benefit.
I could see Strus if significant compensation was coming back. No compensation involved? I would be dynamically annoyed with M&M if they did something like that. Blecch!!

Man, Denver has been really mismanaged. Part of it is that they're suffering from having two max contracts at the same time, but their medium sized deals are all un the upper range of "medium," too, and at least two of those contracts are baaaaad. I was looking at their salary situation the other day, and they're already almost assuredly stuck in the repeater tax for this year and only have like 8-9 people under contract. It's ROUGH.
Yeah, it is not looking good. I think there are two main issues. One is Gordon's and Murray's health. When all three with Jokic are healthy they are damn good. Gordon almost feels like a broken down player how often he gets hurt the last few years though.
The other is they have really failed with the low cost/young players. I guess Braun and Watson are successes but now both may be overpaid, but they really need those younger guys who make little who are your worker bees.. I am not really sure where they messed up. They had one pick who tore his achilles, they traded some picks for second rounders who really didn't hit after the championship. They are just in a tough spot. They do have a super star though but seem to pretty much stuck at the moment.

We are already one young player past what we can fit in on the 15+3 roster, and Martin is way too expensive and prohibitive to stretch waive. Klay doesn't fit the timeline, isn't getting any better at defense and creation at his venerable age, certainly won't re-sign here if still on roster in June '27, and furthermore several of the young prospects can probably already provide what he does (aside from locker room presence) at lower cost and need time to develop further. And he's expiring. Not sure why it's so confusing.

Was Watson supposed to be the "creator" everyone wants? He just seems more of the same we have already, just a slightly different flavor.

It's not confusing. He said that to get a response.

I tend to take people at face value if their name isn't VintagePeja or DallasMaverick.

No. He's just young and really good at basketball.

Yeah, but people are talking about just buying him out. This makes no sense. If you can get assets for his expiring contract AND the young guns can bring what he does or more, then fine. BUT, the Mavs spacing was horrid last year, the Mavs did not use him to his strengths and with a higher paced, better spaced floor, the dude could still offer all-star stats.
I just think people become a little obsessed with myopic things and don't see the larger possibilities. We have NO IDEA how different the offense will be coached this year.

We have an entire team of young and good at basketball. We need a roster that is flexible as possible. Using our entire cap to get a guy just because he is young and good as basketball is not very strategic.

True, but he's closer to AllStar quality than anyone we have aside from Cooper and Kyrie (Morez pending).

Based on 1 year of decent performance? Yeah, sorry, not going to give any kid $30M a year for that. This is EXACTLY how teams get into cap hell.

Developing: The Los Angeles Clippers-Toronto Raptors trade centered on Kawhi Leonard will not be complete until the NBA investigation into the Clippers is over. Statement from the Clippers to ESPN:
For the past 10 months, our organization has fully cooperated with an NBA investigation, participating in dozens of interviews, providing tens of thousands of documents, and facilitating access to our staff. While the process has been challenging, we have remained committed to transparency.
On June 30, we reached an agreement in principle to trade Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors. We have since been informed that the trade can only be finalized if the Raptors' ownership group assumes the risk of penalties related to Kawhi’s contract that could theoretically result from the ongoing investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and we expect the trade to be finalized following its conclusion.
At the heart of this investigation are Joe Sanberg and Aspiration. We did not funnel money to Kawhi Leonard through Aspiration. Like many sophisticated investors, financial institutions, and business partners, we were victims of a fraud initiated by Sanberg, who has been convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
We recognize the uncertainty this has created and the impact it has had on our team, our fans, the Raptors organization, their fans, and the players whose futures remain affected while this process continues.
We remain confident that, when the facts are evaluated fairly and thoroughly, the NBA will confirm exactly what we have said from the beginning: We have not done what we are accused of doing.

Yep, better than the seasons, almost.
If they could just get together in the spirit of common sense and figure out a way to avoid people having to wear those stupid wrong hats on draft night...

Do the Raptors still have to officially accept and complete the trade on June 11th 2027 or can they wait 20 days to sign him in FA.
