My takeaway from today was that he got to Vegas late (yesterday, I believe), hadn't really practiced with the team and kind of walked into the situation expecting to be the center of everything. Hard to blame him based on how things went last summer and the fact that he probably sees himself as an NBA veteran comparatively, but...hopefully, he now understands that he's not the best player on the Mavs' summer league team. 

I think he might look better with his teammates after even one practice. He might've had one with them, but only one, if so.

Hopefully he improves in the coming games but that's not a one game observation.  Last season he was in the Harden, SGA, Doncic, Brunson range of seconds/dribbles per touch. Unless you are an elite iso scorer you have no business dominating the ball like this.

Sergio has a chance to be a really fun player. It is going to take awhile and he will take a lot of bumps but with his size and feel there is something there. Not sure what yet but being in the nba will expedite his learning curve.

Goes for both euros. Even if Schmitz is allowed to pick his favorites they still need to fit into vision 6'9.

I think he can be a very good floor leader if he focuses primarily on being a calming influence and a pass first PG.  

His mentality seems to be wanting to score first and pass if his shot is not there. That IMO is not the right approach

He still managed to have 11 assists.

Rez looked fantastic. Sergio and Ish look legit. That's not even counting whatever Sasser, Biberovic, and Aldama bring. Plus getting Kyrie back and second year Coop.

That's so much more fun than having to try to get excited about DLo and whether or not AD was going to play.

Ish looked like the white dude on the court in the Bronx who had no idea that you have to be a ball hog to score.

He played the game calmly and correctly and got like 5 touches.

Pretty much the anti-Hardy.

I couldn’t have been more impressed by Rez. I haven’t seen anyone mention his screens. That guy is a winning playe r and if they offered assists for screens he would’ve had a ton. He’s a force out there. Game changer.

I had to watch on my phone at my sons practice. Couldn’t pay close attention, like I normally would. After reading some of the comments here I think I need to go back and watch more closely because I did not come away thinking Ish was an NBA ready player like most here. I think he looked outmatched honestly. Even for summer league level. Not saying he didn’t do some good things. I just didn’t get the same impression as the consensus is all.

I did however think Sergio belongs. He has a ways to go with his handle but the passing/size/composure was impressive. His form looks good, even if some shots didn’t go down. I thought he was active on defense. I actually think that side was what surprised me most. I guess I assumed he’d be a turnstile there.

Poulakidas lets it fly. When they go in, he looks amazing. When they don’t, he looks like JAG. His handle looks improved. Almost Guard like and less Wing like.

My Nemby take wasn’t changed after this one. I don’t think he’s long for the roster. I get that SL is when you need to try things you’re not good at. He was shot hunting more, which is fine. He’s just simply not good enough. At least right now. With his size, he needs to really show out and he isn’t really capable…

Lawal has a long way to go but I like the bet on a freak athlete that hasn’t played much basketball. Potential. That’s all he is right now.

Rez is a grown man. Dawg. He will help Year 1. Which is a great compliment for a #9 pick rookie. It’s more rare than you think. He’ll be a fan favorite for a long time!


Anyway, those are my takeaways/overreactions to Game 1 of SL.

IMHO, Larry knows how to shoot, he is just nervous today, but his shooting will come quickly.
The only things stopping Larry to be a reliable PG is his strength and ball handling.
And both of these can be achieved.
What's inherent of De Larrea is his PG instincts.
Dude just knows how to pass.
I'm in the Bandwagon as early as today.

The Russian kid is interesting. Seems like he has the skill and quickness to play SG, spot minutes as emergency PG, and also has enough power to match-up well with smaller PFs. This dude can swing the draft grades for the Mavs several notches up. I hope he gets more touches the next game.

This doesn't happen everyday -- but I'm a fan of all 3 rookies (Lawal isn't there yet, but I'm hoping he sticks, would be sick to have him on the Dunk competition).

What position do we think Ishenko is? Kind of a 2/3?

I'm really hoping to see him get more involved in the offense in the next one.

I did notice that. He was open a lot. One pass away also. Teammates were freezing him out for some reason? Good catch.

Ishchenko definitely deferred, to the point where he was passing up wide open shots. Looked like some jitters for sure. Otherwise he seemed to hustle and tried to bang the boards.

To be fair, I don’t remember any comment saying they wanted Yaxel over Rez. Maybe I missed the odd comment. 

Praising one guy for being good doesn’t mean anyone was hating on our pick.

I thought they were both underrated and happy with either. Rez is probably the better pick long term. Before Yaxel got hurt, that Michigan team looked like an all timer. They could easily produce two all stars plus a good rotation center.

Just want to use this as an opportunity to reinforce the idea that dumb/bad takes are not ban-worthy and they will never be ban worthy. Even if its annoying to read at times. 

Slippery slope moderating at that point.
