Just a few hours left for Khris Middleton to sign an extension and avoid free agency. The most the Mavericks can offer him is a four year, $208,834,639 pact that runs through 2030, but Middleton may be wanting to see what he can get on the open market instead.

Rockets expected to land Marcus Smart
The Houston Rockets have significant interest in free agent guard Marcus Smart and are expected to work out a deal in the three-year, $21 million range that would reunite him with head coach Ime Udoka, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal. Such a deal would fall within the taxpayer mid-level exception threshold.

Interesting to see where he lands. He's not seriously expecting $50M+/year is he? He only made $33.2M last season and I'm thinking he's past being a starter for most teams.

Neither is a great option. Maybe one could squint and decide Sasser was preferred for +2" in height and hope the 3pt % kept improving. Maybe the BWill market is pricing him higher than DAL wants to invest.
Kind of shuffling the deck chairs looking in from the outside.
Sasser does not do much inside the arc, but the 3 point shooting is not close. That 40% form Bwill was small sample. His career is 28% and he just shot 23%, all on relatively low volume. Sasser has been shooting at a high percentage on high volume for his entire NBA career. Don't need his 3 to improve. Its already better than most on this roster.

Grant Afseth: The Phoenix Suns have a strong level of interest in Luke Kennard ahead of NBA free agency. Kennard averaged 8.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists last season, while shooting 47.8% from 3-point range.

Marc Stein: The Mavericks have emerged a leading suitor to acquire Detroit's Marcus Sasser via trade, league sources tell @TheSteinLine. On top of the full non-taxpayer MLE and a $20.3M TPE via the Anthony Davis trade, Dallas also generated a $6 million trade exception by trading away Jaden Hardy. Sasser's $5.2M salary for next season could slot into it.

Ya BWill was playing 10 more MPG than Sasser shooting over .5 3s less a game. Not only is Sasser's shooting more accurate, but the volume will be significantly higher which in some senses is just as important for this team.

The Rockets will need to shed payroll if they're going to sign Marcus Smart to a three-year deal with a portion of their mid-level exception and re-sign Tari Eason while staying under the first apron hard cap.
Dorian Finney-Smith has been mentioned as a potential cap casualty.

What you fail to mention in last year being a career best from 3 for Sasser is that he also improved EVERY season from 3. B Will is a terrible shooter. Neither are going to move the needle, but let's not act like Sasser is trash.

Looks like DFS has fell on hard times. Udoka had him nailed to bench in the playoffs. He didn't get any significant minutes.

Not a peep about the Lakers. Either they have some epic plans or they're gonna fail so hard today.

I always thought Sasser should have got more PT. When Daniss Jenkins came on the scene, that was the nail in the coffin.

He was crucial for them last season. Basically the only floor spacer they had and his defense was probably the best it has ever been. What are they doing?
