Game 11: Dallas Mavericks (5-5) vs. Golden State Warriors (8-2) | 9:00pm CST
You know morale is low when I make a hilarious Bill Belicek joke and it gets ignored.

He said earlier that Lively doesn't play defense. So that should tell you something right there. Sounds like a troll to me.

I’m actually concerned that Luka is Shawn Kemping his career away. He’s had some rough stretches in the past but those were mainly due to correctable shooting mechanics. This seems different. He can barely move, shot only 3 free throws, and just offers no resistance at all on defense. And he doesn’t seem to be injured. He just no longer has any lateral movement. Maybe this is his new normal. He aged faster than others and didn’t take care of his body. It’s definitely going to take a better supporting cast and coach to win a title with Luka than we probably imagined. I’d get prepared for a disappointing year if I were a Mavs fan.

Jason Kidd said he thought Quentin Grimes was fouled on the 3 pointer with 21 seconds left.

Mavs fans. It’s easy to say “this team sucks” but they just played Golden State, Denver and Phoenix extremely tough. The crunch time thing sucks and needs to be fixed. But factor in the injuries, the unlucky whistles down the stretch… the sky is not falling. It might fall later but it’s not right now. Sometimes you just get STEPH'D

The Dallas Mavericks are now 1-5 in clutch games this season.

In their last three game losing streak, they’ve lost by a total of six points.

This team severely needs to fix their late game offense.

People on Mavs twitter have now photo shopped Gafford onto Osama Bin Laden.

Kyrie and Klay showed up in the 4th quarter

6-7 from the field for 17 points. Luka had the biggest dud, 0-3 in the 4th. The last 2 being that contested fadeaway and the prayer at the last second.

If you are Kidd and have Kyrie + Klay cooking like that, why does Luka get the last shot if he's barely been involved on the offense?

This isn't the Mavs team of 2021, where Luka has to do absolutely everything. We don't have Reggie Bullock on the wings... Jeez man.

EDIT: And to anyone reading this, this is not a Luka hate post. He straight up saved the Mavs multiple times this game and carried the team in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. This is a Kidd hate post. Because yet again the direction and set up of the offense/defense makes zero sense. No sort of structure. It's horrible to see.

What game were you watching?  Irving was awful.   Lazy as hell of defense, a turnover machine.   -11

Just another tough loss. Some positives though. Grimes will his best run of the year. Hardy with a great first half. Is there room for both when everyone healthy? Regardless, both will need to put some good games together. It seems like Kidd is looking for someone to be consistent with those minutes between Grimes, Hardy and Dinwiddie (and eventually Exum). Who capitalizes on those opportunities? Having Lively back is really nice. Not a great game from him but you can see it. Having him be an outlet with the ball in the half court offense should really add wrinkles to the offense. Luka was great in the first half. I still think his lack of movement is really limiting him. Credit for him to still being able to be productive while being limited. Although, this team isn't going anywhere if he can't move better.

I said this in preseason and I think it holds true. Marshall does a lot of good things. At the same time, he can be frustrating at times. I think he will work out, but definitely a different player than Jones. I do think we missed the Jones type player during the stretch from last year. Let's see if Marshall can get settled into his role. The team really needs that one guy who takes charges. Every team needs one.

I just feel like the Mavs are just missing a few things each game. Maybe a few extra wide open misses from the three that the other team hits. A few offensive rebounds they give that the other team takes advantage of. A few lazy or just missed rotations that allows 5-6 easy baskets throughout the game. A few heat check probably not the best shot attempts that lead to fast breaks to the other team. A few loose balls that the Mavs got last year that they aren't getting now. Maybe this is true for every team, but I see these pop up in every game. Several of them and then you look back at a close loss and think what if.....

While I think Kidd typically does experiment early in the season, I really think they are really trying to win these games. Look at Kyrie and Luka minutes. That is the frustrating part because you know there will be stretches when both miss games. I thought the Mavs would be better positioned to survive short term games misses from Luka and Kyrie. Right now, I am not feeling that.

oh one more thing, the GS bump is for real.  For some reason Buddy could hardly get off the bench with Philly last year for a team that really needed shooting.  Now he is in GS and looks great taking people off the dribble.  When did he do that?  He looks to be fitting in really nice.

Maybe two...the slow starts are really hurting.  Mavs fought back at the end of the fourth to be only down a few.  But the starting level group was beat down at the beginning of the third quarter.  Every team goes on runs or has droughts, but Dallas needs to find a way to have less of these.  Especially at beginning of games or halves.

It was glaring that all our good offense started with Luka off the ball and all our bad offense started with Luka bringing the ball up the floor. For one Luka is not healthy/out of shape/whatever and obviously when Luka starts the offense 90% of the time, the other team will just scout that scheme heavily. They seemed completely clueless, when Hardy, Grimes or Marshall and to a lesser extent Kyrie bring up the ball with some pace. Just take the ball out of Luka´s hands and let the others create. I´d even give Gortman some run, who has literally not missed a shot in his NBA career, while Hardy and Dinwiddie can´t throw it into the ocean currently.

I generally think we are a slower team than last year. Marshall has a slow release. Klay struggles to generate space for himself in half court sets. Hardy does not have long arms, which also creates release problems. But I feel besides Luka this is a lack of offensive schemes. Hardy is not tall, but he´s fast with a reasonably quick release, so run him around some screens like RIP, instead of parking him in the corners, where he can be closed down by lengthy SGs. Klay needs a faster pace and ball movement to trigger earlier. Marshall can generate early offense, cause he´s really good in these mid-range situations, but none of that is happening as long as slow Luka dribbles the air out the ball and he currently has no solutions due to his physical limitations.

Makes me want to puke to see Stotts on the Warriors bench as an assistant. That means Mavs didn´t want to pay for his championship winning offensive input.

Told myself there was a very good chance this team was going to be 5-6 after this three game stretch but it somehow feels worse happening after you lose three games by a combined six points. In reality that should make me feel better given my expectations with the injuries and travel, these were actually much more competitive than I expected. Honestly neutral fans probably watched all three games and came away thinking they watched a bunch of games with two good teams but that doesn’t help mavs fans not feel dejected. Just is what it is, the schedule softens up for a good while now so we have to take advantage.

Can we also talk about how atrocious Kidds challenges have been? Cost us a potential timeout at the end of the game or a challenge on that Gafford foul where Draymond was in the key.gotta stop listening to Luka on those.

yeah, it has been bad.  Did we change the process?   First, Kidd should never take Luka's word for it.   In fact, no players word for it.    It appears some of the challenges they have used have not even been important plays.   That Gafford call last night, I think was pretty bad.    I think Draymond was in the circle and Gafford made a normal basketball move to score.   I think that would have been overturned.   Either way, that is the type of play you want to use a challenge on.

Only saving grace is we're in Utah Thursday. I know you're never suppose to overlook any team, because you can lose to anybody. But, this losing streak should end tomorrow.

Its´amazing. All these East teams starting strong like Detroit, Washington or Charlotte, while Ainge ain´t f´n around with the best white North American prospect since Kevin Love on the deck. Utah will probably finish with the worst record.

Certainly hope so.  Never easy playing in elevation at the end of a long road trip though.
