I don't mind this deal.
It seems like a low-risk, mid-reward type move. James Johnson and Wes Iwundu weren't going to make much of an impact, if only because they weren't to get on the court, so now we'll take a flyer and see if the Mavs actually got a guy who can dependably make an open shot in their system. Plus whatever Melli may or may not provide. The second round pick was a minor asset, almost worthless.
The Transaction may be a little disappointing, since the Trade Deadline was so hyped, and it's a smallish move. But there's some potential upside to it, and Reddick might well be able to help the team here and there. Also, seems like he plays a style that can be easily integrated into the system -- you don't lose much time while everyone learns a whole new chemistry.
And if it doesn't work, the Mavs just march right on. They don't have to start over or anything.
Given the assets they had, I don't know what prizes they could honestly have come up with. This looks realistic. I can dig it.
