The rotation was entirely predictable last night.
Keep any two of Luka, THJ and Burke on the floor at all times.
Keep one of Green and Iwundu on at all times as your wing defender.
Keep two of your bigs on at all times.
Where would we have been without Burke if he was still sick and Terry had to take his minutes. The off season was clearly focused on D and Depth (for just such a game as this). But we wouldn't have been deep enough offensively if we had lost one more O-oriented player. Most of Burke's damage came with Luka sitting. Recall that Brunson put up a 31/7/5 night the game Luka missed. So far in limited minutes, Brunson/Luka and Burke/Luka have been positive combo's, but Brunson/Burke has not been.
Anyone who watches Carlisle's tendencies could have predicted the Green start (hiding him with the other starters) and Iwundu coming off the bench and getting more minutes. For the person who told me it would be almost impossible for Carlisle to play rookies less than 20 minutes...the total rookie count was actually 15.5 minutes.
The bigs were a disappointment other than Johnson. 15 points from 68 minutes of Willie/Maxi and Powell. I almost laughed out loud because once again someone felt the need to point out Powell's play against Vucevic. For the record, Vuc made 9 buckets on WCS, 2 on Maxi, 2 on Powell and 1 on Johnson. As good as Willie was against Jokic, he had no answer for Vuc. last night.
Can you have a triple double and an off night simultaneously? If all you knew about the game was Luka hit 35% of his shots and had six turnovers, you might predict a loss. White hot shooting from Burke and Hardaway and active D from Iwundu carried the day. If this is what Iwundu is, he probably deserves more minutes. But, we already have 11 people deserving minutes (plus occasional Bobi cameos) and we need developmental time for Green. I don't see how he gets much burn unless someone is out.
I see nothing special about Gordon that makes me want to give up any value for him. The better everyone plays the more difficult it is to find that one more piece we think we need.
