($6,341,463-$2,185,116)/2= $2,078,174 saved for the Mavs. Klay's cap hit would still be $15,382,143 for tax/apron purposes.
A buyout is an agreement to take less. Negotiable number.
It often matches the new salary. But not required. Again, negotiable.
Set off can be oddly utilized, and negotiable. They might agree to no set off. Again, negotiable.
The numbers don't have to neatly align to anything. But often they match up somehow.
MIA has cap or apron or exception limits in play somehow. DAL likely prefers to pay least possible amount for Klay playing for MIA. Those issues undoubtedly came into play.
Actual salary from MIA and cap hit to DAL will emerge eventually. But difference between this possible number or that should be mostly of no matter. Nickels and dimes.
