PJ has the higher percentage. 35.4% to 34.6%
More seasons shooting over 36.1% (league average). 4 to 1
PJ has had 3 seasons that are better than Aldima's career best.
Now back to the loony bin I go
The stat I heard for Aldama is 36% on 5 attempts per game (on non-starter minutes) over the last three seasons. I think the weird, tanking season, during which he played the fewest games is what you're using, but ultimately it doesn't matter. I'm very familiar with PJW's game (love it, for the most part) and all I know about Aldama is the 5-6 hours of highlights and game footage I watched last night. 15 minutes into that I could tell he's a better shooter and ball handler than PJW - not a better PLAYER (I want to be clear), but a better SHOOTER.
For one thing, it didn't take long to see that Aldama has been taking tough threes. Shots off of movement, shots from all over the court. Even contested ones, pretty frequently. More than half of PJW's 3-point attempts have been open, stand-still shots (feet already set) from the corner.
I don't want to get into a huge debate about this, and I never said YOU were crazy. You're one of the saner folks around here. But, I do NOT agree with your assessment that these two players are similar shooters, or that PJW might even be a better shooter. I very much disagree with that, and think it's a crazy take.
I also don't want this to come across like an anti-PJW post, because it's not. All I'm saying is that IF you think creating space around Flagg in a variety of different ways should be a priority (and my goodness, I DO), then I think Aldama is a good step in that direction, and will help more with that, specific goal than a few of the rotation front court players here (not just PJW).
