Lumping all picks together in one bucket ignores the enormous difference in values between, say, a top-5 pick, a mid-first-round pick, and a second.

Statistically, second-round picks have very little chance of becoming good NBA players. Throwing a couple in to get a solid player is totally acceptable.

…until you run out of them.
