Doesn't it make sense for all involved, teams and player, for Kyrie to get somewhere contention-ready enough to offer him another lucrative deal? I'm not 100% positive that won't happen in Dallas, but it doesn't strike me as likely and he's obviously already thinking about that. He's not stupid.
I don't think the hiring of May changed ANYTHING in the Mavs thinking or direction. That would be backwards management by the Mavs FO. They hired May to execute what they already intend to do. They felt he as the one that can do that the best.
Nor do I think it is some sort of game-changer for Kyrie. I would wager he wants the best coach possible (and the coach wants the best talent possible).
